No reason why the Flames shouldn't run away with this one. Detroit is pretty much out of it at this point and they're 4-5-1 in their last 10. Also their PP is dead last in the league, so even if the Flames get into penalty trouble tonight, there's no reason to panic.

Of course this obviously makes this a classic trap game. As long as the Flames have a good start and put in a solid effort, they should be ok. I'd really like to see them score the first goal for a change.

These games worry me the most. Flames should not take Detroit lightly if they do it'll be a L for the home team. They need to come out flying tonight and shut the wings down quick.

If they're able to limit the Wing's breakout speed, particularly through the neutral zone, it should be a decent night. They were able to do it vs TB, and from the pregame comments it sounds as if Gulutzan knows the key thing to do is limit their speed.

I feel we see the Flames finally cement themselves tonight. Dominating 5-1 win.

These are the kinds of games that I always dread. Flames firmly in control of their own destiny, looking to build some consistency in their game, and playing a team with really nothing left to play for. One of only a few "gimmes" left on the schedule.

The past has taught me these are exactly the kinds of nights where the team poops the bed, gets inside their own heads, and begin an ugly skid that has them right back to clawing and grasping for dear life. Please let this be the end of so many years where history repeats itself.

NHL Network panel (featuring Alex Tanguay) is singing the Flames' praises right now. They love Ferland, Brodie, and the 3M line. They're even talking about how Elliott is bringing his "A" game lately.

Even mentioned how the Flames are fun to watch. Everybody's talking about Edmonton, but they think the Flames are probably a better team (to watch?) right now. Called them a fun team that's "coming".

Kiss of death or is it good the league is taking notice?

It's cool that they're getting some praise around the league, but I much prefer it when the Flames fly under the radar. Last thing we need right now is for this team to get too cocky and over-confident. It never ends well when you start believing your own hype. Just look at those entitled idiots up north.

Yeah would prefer the attention after the first upset round in the playoffs.

Every other team goes on their best run of the season from here on out is unlikely enough...then factor in that they all play each other (most multiple times)

a game or two above .500 and its playoffs, again not a guarantee they hit 10-8 or better but based on what we have seen lately a good bet
This is a team that went 5-8 in January after an upswing with a good record. This board has a really short memory; the flames have been inconsistent.

I'm not being pessimistic. Just trying to be realistic. We're in a good position but its by no means a lock. This league has a ton of parity. Just like when we were losing I wasn't losing my mind about it.

That is respectable. But happened to be two months ago. Time frame is relevant - a losing streak doesn't look as bad with ~40 games left, but now we're down to 18-20 and are riding a hot streak as the top trending team in the league.

It isn't as if suddenly everyone forgets how to try hard, or play the right way. You saw it in the Flames articles - everyone is amped up right now and mentally in the right place. The Flames would have to go from top trending team to worst trending team to miss the dance.

Awww man. I remember watching this the first time and thinking how awesome it will be to have him playing for us one day.

Now a 3/4 of a season has gone by, he's on one of the best lines in hockey, and the team is in a playoff spot and Tkachuk has been a huge reason why. Unreal. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

If we do make the playoffs, seeing him and Ferland go into Beastmode is going to be something else

"I'm just being realistic is such a cop-out. It's pessimism. The Flames are realistically a very good bet to make the playoffs.

I believe these guys are pretty motivated, no way they are letting up with the Oilers in their sights. I don't think being over confident will be an issue I think their drive is more goal oriented.
