None of this is relevant in any way.
Only the Snek is relevant

um no its not...playoffs will be 90-92 points
I would bet everything I own that that or lower is the cutoff, do the math...Flames need a decent record but nothing crazy. Is it in the bag? no but they are certainly in the drivers seat.

It is not a guarantee, but a four-point gap with 18 games remaining is certainly more meaningful than "nothing." It means that for the Flames to miss the playoffs BOTH the Kings and the Blues must gain +5 points on them. Given how well this team has been playing for a month now this is an extremely tall order. And no, that four point gap can not disappear in a single night, since a team can only earn a maximum of two points in a game.

It is not as simple as drawing this conclusion from a winning record. Fans who are confident about the Flames playing in the playoffs are also factoring in the gap I addressed above, the balance of the schedule, and how the contending teams are playing at present. The Flames have put themselves in an excellent position to make the playoffs, and it will be a huge surprise to see them falter to such a degree that they do not make it.

We could really use a blow out in our favor to get that Goal Differential up in case we tie one or more teams. Our ROW's decent, head to head obviously varies but our Goal Diff is trash (worst out of the teams in the race) thanks to the numerous times the Flames have been blown out this season.

It is the fourth tie-breaker, and almost certainly will not make any difference.

2 months ago the Flames didn't have a lead on multiple teams plus the tie breaker...please explain to me how the Flames go 10-8 and miss the playoffs
Every other team goes on their best run of the season from here on out is unlikely enough...then factor in that they all play each other (most multiple times)
a game or two above .500 and its playoffs, again not a guarantee they hit 10-8 or better but based on what we have seen lately a good bet

But what if Calgary, LA, and St. Louis end the year tied in points, and all have the same number of ROWs, and have earned the exact same amount of points in games between each other? You're going to look pretty silly if this happens and the Flames haven't focused on their goal differential.
If it's these 3 teams tied, Calgary would have 2 wins thrown out because of the odd number of games played rule. If Calgary beats St. Louis in regulation, and LA bears St. Louis in regulation, and Calgary wins 2/3 of the remaining games against LA, with all three ending in regulation, then they are tied per rule 3, assuming ROWs are the same. If that run on sentence happens, goal differential is used!
