I could care less about any draft picks from this season going the other way, since this draft seems to be so mediocre overall.
Bennett + would be a good start.

Wait Evander Kane?
Bennett+ to start? Tre would be fired on the spot for doing that deal straight up

When your teams biggest cap hit goes to a guy that has retired...maybe, just maybe they are not focused on winning. Any belief he has or had was extremely misguided. I don't think he is a terrible person or anything just that he is kinda ignorant to reality when it comes to his team.
|
The only thing similar I've found is Garrioch saying Doan suggested his contract should be void if they move, since he has a NMC (not that his contract should void the move of the team, the opposite). And it appears to have been a Garrioch rumour, so I'm going to bet even that version of it wasn't true. Definitely not the same as what you were suggesting though, and at least sort of understandable.
He might be a little ignorant, I wouldn't say he's anything more than a simple man with a good sense of loyalty. He likes playing hockey, he likes Arizona, hard to fault him past that.
I definitely don't get the entitled/idiot/etc view some people have.

To ad to this. Where would to money come from? He's making $6m a year. Where would he play? He's a LW so who does he replace, Johnny? Tkachuk? I don't think so. Going to pay a third line LW the 4th most on the team?
I wouldn't give up much of anything for that guy. He oozes self centred brat to me.

Friedman on 960 says he thinks MAF would love to go to Dallas but the Pens can't take back one of the Stars goalies past this year.
Yzerman may not be finished, Bishop move bought some cap space.
Would be surprised if Flames didn't look at Bishop before he went to LA.
thinks Nashville could be the team that gets Brian Boyle (if he moves). thinks Oilers won't pay the price for Boyle
thinks Ottawa is willing to add but everyone wants Colin White, Thomas Chabot, or Codi Ceci which Dorian doesn't want to do. Wonders if he would consider moving Logan Brown.
Philly has Streit and Del Zotto available
wonders if Sharp is on LA's radar - lot of teams watching him yesterday
Vancouver has to make a deal then take it to Burrows and ask him to waive his NTC for that deal which means his traded being is not a sure thing
believes Colorado will hold on to Duchene and Landeskog rather than make a bad trade at the deadline
one person told Friedman that Shattenkirk is staying, another told him that Shattenkirk is definitely moving
there has been some Evander Kane talk lately
the Hanzal trade will have everyone with a pending UFA testing the market to see if they can get a similar return
Detroit and Brendan Smith talking extension and there has been some positive movement on that front
thinks Detroit will protect Mrazek - but Detroit has been telling teams that if you are offering a young defencman they are willing to talk
thinks Viktor Stalberg in Carolina is a potential under the radar acquisition that no one is really talking about

Rhett on the morning show today thinks if the Flames chase any forward at trade deadline it should be Boyle - big bruiser, RHS, lots of playoff experience, can slot in up and down your lineup.

I'd love to pick up the playoff pirate. Boyle is amazing in the playoffs.

I like Boyle. I think he is the type of player that this team has been searching for ever since Burke came to Calgary and re-used the term "truculence".
Plus, Boyle is Big. And remember what Reggie Dunlop used to always say?
Big=Good!

Either way, what I've seen is a pattern of loyalty. He has said in countless interviews he feels he owes the city something for how good they've been to him, and I would assume he gets frustrated because he's the only one who has that belief and/or has stuck to it for so long.
|
He said it all right, at least according to Garrioch in 2009. Well, he said the move would void his contract, which in his view was a pressure tactic. I don't however, see it as self-entitled. He just likes the city and wants to live there.

Boyle on the 3rd line with Bennett on LW would be alright.

I am assuming that if the Flames picked up Boyle then he would be taking either Bouma or Chiasson out of the lineup?

He's also going to likely command a first round pick. I pass on that.

Really though? Is he comparable to Hanzel? I think the Flames could possibly make a deal that doesn't include that 1st rounder.

My only concern with trading for Boyle right now is the expansion draft. Can we trade for him and sign him after the expansion draft and avoid the NHL coming down on us for colluding with the player to avoid the expansion rules?
For some of the guys at this deadline, I think it is better for the Flames to simply get lesser depth players and go hard after some free agents in the summer. The cost to obtain some of the players at the deadline, only to lose him for nothing to expansion, lose him to free agency because you didn't want to lose an already existing player you didn't want to lose, or simply losing that existing player.

Hard to say. He is lesser than Hanzal but he is probably the best center left on the market.
There could also be a bit of a bidding war, Preds, Oilers, and Toronto have been linked to Boyle. Of those 3, the Preds are probably the best situated to give up a 1st.

I have this feeling that Treliving is going to grab Joel Armia before Wednesday. I don't know why he would be available, but a big, RHS RW who is only 23 and still with upside and pushed down the depth chart by Laine could be an option the Flames look at. Plus he's having a down season so he may come relatively cheap under the radar. And Winnipeg is on the verge of being out of contention.

It doesn't sound like P.A. Parenteau's absence from the #NJDevils skate this morning is related to a trade. Stand down.
Mike Morreale @mikemorrealeNHL
Just told by Devils PR that Parenteau was injured after blocking a shot vs the Rangers on Saturday. So there's that. He's out tonight

Yeah for the player Boyle is and the actual impact he has on the ice, he's not going to be worth the likely 1st round pick.
