(I know a few of you that are in the 'sell now' camp would, but I mean everyone else)
I wouldn't, personally. Just because it is too short-term focused. I still think Bennett will be a stud and a leader when we next win the Cup.
Not I. Not Bennett. I still see Bennett as a more valuable long term piece than even Johnny. Championships are won down the middle. A bigger Mike Richards that can skate? Yes, please.

Another good point. Have people considered that Tkachuk is trending towards a massive payday?

Bennett for Simmonds? I would have to think long and hard on that one. I think Bennett will be a hell of a centre. Simmonds is already an absolute beast and is a RW. Tough call.
Simmonds is 28 and the Flames shouldn't be trading a 20 year old with first line upside for a player that close to 30. They are not close enough to winning the cup to give up a young asset like Bennett for a 28 year old player

He was born in Calgary while his dad played for the Flames. I doubt he has any connection left here.
Still not a bad player and if cheap enough (like any rental) may help this club get into the dance.
I thought that too - his dad was born in the states - but his dad's brother was born in Calgary 4 years later and their Dad played for the Calgary Buffalos in 53 which leads me to believe he might be from Calgary as well so it seems like the Eaves have a bit of a connection to Cowtown. Regardless I think he would be a great fit and like you pointed out would be a great guy to have down the stretch here to push for a playoff spot.
The game Bennett gave us last night is good reason to not even consider moving this guy IMO. We got the boat already in this guy, no need to trade him for something that could even be a boat.

What did he do last night? Have a fight? He didn't do much more than that. 12 minutes of ice time and you hardly noticed him.
I'd rather keep Bennett and not give up on him but come on he didn't do anything last night but beat the crap out of a Nashville player.
Simmonds is a helluva player. I am open to that trade. Not every high draft pick works out. The trick is figuring out who those picks are before everyone else does. No one should have a better idea of Bennett's upside than the Flames.
But you'd certainly feel better about trading a young forward if some guys on the farm were knocking on the door.

12 minutes cause he needed repairs a couple of times and he missed mins from the fight which would bring him back up to 14-16 mins (3rd line mins) - he had a great shift on that penalty kill in the final two minutes, with a massive gash on his face was still lining up to block the shooting lanes and had a courageous clear. He's a gamer, people just look at 4th overall and expect points right away and I get that but Bennett is gonna be good in many parts of the game and I think we would be wise to be patient with him like we were with Backs - the payoff will be greater which is an amazing thought.

I agree he had a great PK in the final minute, I just didn't like his game the rest of the night even before he got cut.
I'm a big Bennett fan and think he has a tonne of potential and want to see him succeed and wish he'd get to show his game more on the wing as I think Center is hard to play the style he wants to play.
And I honestly don't mind him not getting points, it's his play away from the puck that I haven't liked. He doesn't seem to be skating very hard on the back check and is usually the last guy back and as a center that's a problem. It doesn't help when he has to play with someone as slow as Versteeg but I hope we can get another good defensive center and allow Bennett to flourish as a winger for now.
He's still very young and has a lot of time to develop as a center.
And I also have no doubt he will be great in the playoffs if we make it. He definitely has passion and it seems that's being a little restrained this season because of the coach.
Wouldn't be interested in trading away Sam bennett unless it's a massive overpayment.. like Simmonds + 1st rounder.
He's gonna be a really great player just give him some time. He's the highest drafted flames player ever, he will be a beauty
It would make zero sense to trade Bennett for Simmonds right now (and I love Simmonds).
Are the Flames going to be contending for the cup in the next 2 years with Simmonds in the lineup? I don't think so - at the very least, it is doubtful that the Flames would be looked upon as legitimate contenders in the next two seasons.
Bennett is cost controlled and has a pretty decent ceiling. This team needs to be focused not on this season or the next, but 2+ years down the line when they should be a better team and hopefully contending.
I would love to find another way to get Simmonds on the team, however, but I think it would be probably easier to acquire Landeskog than Simmonds.
Also, Bennett reminded us all of something important yesterday. Gaudreau and Monahan are very important pieces for this team moving forward, but one has to be protected, and the other is relatively 'soft' (he goes to the hard areas, but is not truculent - that is what I mean before anyone gets upset here). Bennett can not only drop them, but he is good at it. RyJo is not a fighter, but he is a lot bigger than Bennett (probably out-weighs him by 20lbs, and at his age has more 'man-strength'). Laughton in Juniors was known as a guy that could handle himself well, and outweighed Bennett and was also 2 years older (which is huge at that age). Bennett beat him up.
I do think that Bennett will become a very important piece for the Flames - I think he will become the most important forward on this team, actually. He will be able to produce and he will be able to muck it up and be very hard to play against. That's valuable. Why is Simmonds so wanted on this board and around the league? Because he can produce and is very difficult to play against.
Keep the 20 year old kid and let's see what he turns into.
I'm not seeing it outta Bennett. I bet he ends up a bust. I'd sell 'high' based on what we've seen so far before his value further erodes.
Also Simmonds and a 1st is hilariously outrageous. Why not just offer Bennett for McDavid instead?
What's the bet? You're betting he'll be a bust like Yak and Daigle? What's the wager?
Also, what exactly aren't you seeing from him?
Rookie season: 36 points. That's more than what Monahan put up in his rookie season, and more than what Iginla put up in his sophomore season (almost as if a "sophomore slump" is a known risk or issue with young developing players).
Sophomore season: Developing his 200 foot game (first year as a centre), and learning to be an effective player night in and night out even when he's not producing offensively.
I think your expectations are out of whack. Player development is not a straight shot upwards, and the fact that he's had two different coaches while playing two different positions is also worth mentioning.

Gaudreau, Tkachuk & Monahan have kinda skewed peoples' expectations of young players.
Bennett hasn't come in and immediately torn the league a new eh-hole, but he looks darned good for a 20-year-old who is given more and more responsibility with each passing month.
Look at Backlund's career trajectory – it's taken him 10 years to become the player we read about in the scouting reports. I don't think Bennett will take anywhere near that long to become an impact player, but he's worth being patient with.
I don't want him to become the next Doug Gilmour, in the sense that I tear my hair out watching him become a superstar at some other team, knowing he should still be a Flame. Please God no.

To be fair 36 points as a rookie doesn't mean much, Yak had 31 points in 48 games as a rookie and look where he is now. I'm not saying Bennett is or will be a bust, but spouting off points from a rookie season don't mean much. But there is definitely reason for concern because on too many nights the only time you notice him is because he is taking a penalty.
