I don't believe it's comparable though. Brouwer has only been a disappointment relative to the contract we signed him to. We didn't overpay for Stone, like we did for Brouwer.
Something else to consider, that the analytics community most assuredly did not, is that Dennis Wideman has been arguably the worst 2nd pairing D-man in the league this season. Stone has value to this team that goes beyond what he's done for ARZ this season, in that he demotes Dennis Wideman off of TJ Brodie's right side. Again, a variable in this deal that the analytics crowd does not take into account.

It's not? Where did I say it was?
I think it's good trade value.

Low risk, moderate reward.
Point is its a price that you can stomach even if if doesn't pan out. But at least there's an opportunity for a younger dman not named Wideman to step in and try to prove that he's a better alternative, and most likely is.
Maybe on a team with a shot for playoffs he feels invigorated and brings a bit extra than he showed on a lottery bound team that doesn't have much to play for.

I would not be opposed to signing Stone for 3 years at 3 million like Engelland's contract and toss something LV's way to not take him in the expansion draft.

Honestly it was hard to tell what you were complaining about. That post was all over the place.

Apparently it is, as several people touched on how there's no concern with the expansion draft / the Flames looking to re-sign him if that's what they wanted to do.
Yet there was that convoluted post of yours.

How many defenceman do the Flames need? Does Bartkowski get waived / sent down now? Someone is going out the door, only question is who.

Very pleased with the deal. I thought Stone was a legitimate target and if the Flames made a move on the blue line it was he or Kulikov they were after. This deal makes sense for a lot of reasons. IIRC I read that Treliving went after Stone 2 years ago and dangled Baertschi as the return but Maloney didn't bite and we moved onto the Vancouver deal.
My concern with a Stone trade was the price. He is not Shattenkirk but is probably in the next tier of available D. He is still only 26, has size, and shoots right. He is having a poor season but still a 3rd rounder is a price you pay all day considering the Flames were desperate to upgrade the position. Here is hoping playing on a team in the race and playing with a partner like Brodie helps Stoner have success here. If it works out you sign him and hope you don't lose him to Vegas but this is not a protectable player. Again at the price of a third there is no risk and you can sign him after the expansion draft as he is a pending UFA.
Once again the Flames make a trade under Treliving that leaves the fans feeling pleased. Personally I know a few out there that want the Flames to sell but for me I am happy they are going for it. This team needs playoff experience with their core and they are close. Flames appear to be buyers but it wouldn't shock me to see them sell off an asset or 2 before the 1st. Maybe they are still in on Kulikov and will move the likes of Engellend?

Now you got it. See, just sounding out the words pays off, right?
And I've touched on how there is room for concern. Do you need me to repeat on the points I've touched on? Maybe I can draw a picture that's less convoluted for you (by the way, good job on using such a big word little buddy)?

Nope, it was as misguided and off base the first time you said it as it was the 2nd attempt with the mixed in complaining about the pick in the middle.
You can spin it any way you want, it's unwarranted concern and hot air.

Please for the love of God don't turn this thread into a "who sucks worse as a poster and why" thread again.
I'm very happy with this trade and the Bart pickup mostly because of LESS WIDEMAN WHOOO!

There's no room for concern. Your post was off base and incorrect. No reason to dig in and try to defend a point that had zero merit

They just mentioned on the blues/cats intermission that this move opens up the possibility of Wideman being traded. John Shannon chuckled. That's enough said right there.
