Miller will go back to the States if he's going to be a backup/split tandem.
And he was 1-3 against the Flames with over a 3GAA average last year...Francis' cherry picking stats notwithstanding.

I know he'd rather stay on the coast but Miller has Colorado written all over him

Flames may just be better off re-signing their current tandem at a (continued) discount

Don Maloney was in Detroit today, maybe watching Mrazek? He beat Washington in shootout, stopping 34 of 36 shots.

Mrazek is only 25 and is signed for next year at a cap hit $4m. He is not having a great year, but who is in Detroit. I would take the that he will rebound next year.

Detroit isn't going to be able to move Howard and it sounds like they really like Coreau, that could make Mrazek the odd man out.

I don't think he will be cheap, might cost our 1st, or one of our big 3 defensive prospects plus a pick.

Obviously, you don't know your math and that's why this kind of thinking is totally wrong. Putting Versteeg as a right handed point guard was a patch because the Flames don't have a good D-man who can shoot the puck - they do and they don't with Wideman. But 4 powerplays tonight looked really good, but frickin Versteeg is no Iginla, who can actually shoot the puck! Flames problems is not the goalie. Get the right players first, it's 1 + 2 + 3 = 6!

I don't think they should be selling players for picks or prospects that aren't ready to contribute to a winning atmosphere. I think this team needs to be build to win. Even if the odds of making the playoffs aren't great, they need something to build on. They need to figure out how to win. They need to win non-important games, and they need to win them convincingly. They don't need to throw in the towel and usher in a culture of losing. Burke and Treliving have preached that before.

I am not against trading away prospects.
If the flames had to give up Kylington or Hickey + picks for Strome or Beaulieu, it would be okay.

How many defensemen have the Flames developed in the last 10 years? Just Brodie.
How many goaltenders have the Flames developed in the last 10 years? None

Hopefully the Flames trade older roster players, picks, and prospects for younger roster players with some upside.

Players with upside who are ready to compete in the NHL now.

I'd look at a lateral Bennett swap for a similar young talent that's also trying to put it together.

Emphasis on similar. Meaning same sort of ceiling.

A change of scenery sparker for both sides.

Then again I'm not as crazy high on Bennett's potential as others around here (aka not a #1C..just my opinion though). I do know he can and will be better than he has been.

If the Flames give up assets for Cammy a third time after losing him for nothing twice they are officially the worst asset managing team in the league.

I dunno. They got some quality assets for Glencross, Russell, and Hudler. It's not like they only spend assets and never accumulate them. I don't think it helps much to dwell on the fact Cammalleri has a history with the team. If he can help improve the roster then it's worth looking at. I think we are all getting tired of watching Gaudreau set up guys with no finish so I'd be curious to see how it would work out.

And most times I would say shoot for the moon if that's the case, not much to lose.

However, the expansion draft really ties their hands. You can't make a huge splash and risk exposing a player you want in your plans. You either go after guys that can be had for cheap that you wouldn't mind potentially losing, go for young players that wouldn't qualify for exposure, or you trade an asset you were going to protect for another team's asset.

A goalie is of course the exception here. Your current guys aren't locked up beyond this season, so if you managed to snag a starter in a trade that you like better than the current guys, then you can protect the guy you bring in.

I would agree but how else will they improve the team so that they do go somewhere? Eventually they have to start buying. They won't be buying rentals either, they'll likely be looking for an upgrade at RW. Buying doesn't always mean selling your future for rentals.

Komarov has a lot of truculence and pugnacity and he is an all-star. Trade for him. How often can you get an all-star?

Or the option of giving up young assets for a player who is better than the guys you are currently protecting. There are teams with deeper talent better than flames who risk losing them for nothing. Target these teams. If it leaves Brouwer exposed who cares.

John Scott might be willing to come out of retirement. He was All Star MVP. Pretty pugnacious.

Are Cam Fowler or Sami Vatanen still available? I would take either of them in a heartbeat...

Jacob Trouba? Tyson Barrie?
