Friedman: UPD: Flames looking for a winger pref with edge and maybe a goalie
Friedman on HNIC says Treliving has his hands in a lot of things in terms of buying at the deadline. Says he is one of the more active GMs right now.
Kypreos says goalie long term is most likely target, and doesn't believe MAF will move until the offseason.

Getting an expansion casualty forward on the cheap (Silfverberg?) would be ideal. Either that or packaging some assets together for an upgrade.

Is this a product of Treliving having no contract next season?
He could sell but the pressure to make the playoffs to keep his job could force him into buying. He should get an extension right now anyway but that could be playing into his strategy.
Flames definitely need to add if they are going to do anything this season

It depends on what he is buying, if it is young players, than it is good. Ryan Strome should be a target.

I hope it's not for rentals. I hope it's not for goalies on the wrong side of 30.
Strome type players would be fine. But I don't see the Islanders trading him now with their sudden surge.

You are right about Strome(just target players in situations like his and in his age group.)
Rentals and goalies on the wrong side of 30 are just horrible.

Perhaps a bit of buying and selling?
Hopefully for younger players who can help past this year. AKA Duclair, Strome, etc. Maybe a guy like Yakupov. Young players who could use a change of scenery/a better opportunity who can be had for cheaper cost compared to others.
At the same time, see if you can sell guys like Wideman as unlikely as that is or Bouma.

I am all for buying just as I am all for selling.
It all depends on the price tag.
For example, if the Avalanche only want a 4th or something similar for Iginla, well obviously you do that. Similarly, if someone wants to give us a 2nd for Versteeg, you look at that also.

Finding good goaltending somehow, someway would go a long way with this team. We're close to good enough where if we had top 10 goaltending, we'd be in good shape. Goaltending is 1+1=3. Not only do the better basic stats like save % itself help win games, but confident players in front of a great goalie are just way better. Right now we have the opposite effect.

Shop for pieces that become part of the solution (Duchene, Landeskog, long term goalie), and sell the short term (Versteeg, Engelland).
...fix the bloody goaltending.

Valid.
He'll do like Anthopolus did with the Blue Jays in his last year.
Throw caution to the wind by pulling off a couple big deals that take and showcase a lot of GM expertise, experience, foresight, cap management and also require a lot of solid league contacts etc etc, something that gets the fans buzzing and team energized for the last month and the run....and dare the management not to meet his demands and risk losing him....regardless of whether the moves he makes gets them in or not.
I think prior years he knew he may not get buy in from the stubborn coach on players he'd pick up, and not play them properly or in the right situations; this year he doesn't have that same concern.

Treliving doesn't seem like the rental type, so I'm glad he's out there trying to take advantage of GM's eager to make a move and/or the expansion draft

The way Ryan Miller played vs Cgy this year you have to wonder if he'll be on the short list of possible #Flames goalie signings this summer
I'm going to be sick

Never thought about Miller really. At least the trade acquisition cost will be favorable to the Flames while Benning is Manning their helm.

Probably a factor of several factors:
1) Treliving doesn't have a contract next year and has the pressure to take risks
2) The draft sucks
3) The draft odds sucks
