Yeah. If there is anyone who deserves the goat horns on this game, it is Stajan. That attempted bank pass that went right out into the slot for the Rangers player was horrible. Ended up giving the Rags their 4th goal which turned out to be the difference.
Basically Stajan went from a hero against the Devils on Friday to a goat today against the Rangers

It was clearly deflected AC, that video capture it perfectly.
I'm not looking for an argument when I say this but when did it become too much to ask for your goaltenders to make a few really, really tough saves per game? Elliot is pretty much camped underneath the crossbar when that puck goes in.

They just won 3 in a row and lost a 1 goal game to a top team in the afternoon... relax everyone.

3rd goal on Elliot, kinda soft. Top of the slot and deflected off Widemans skate, still far enough out that he should of had it.
The Stajan give away was horrible, so was his penalty in the first period in the offensive zone away from the play. If anyone is looking for a goat this game it is stajan!
Good for Versteeg, good for Ferland. About time this team showed some emotion and stood up for themselves and teamates.
Sucks that we lost but I did enjoy the game.

bad break on the deflection but really in that 50/50 window of 'unstoppable/great save' imo Eliot is already at the top of the crease and the guy is shooting from just about at top of the circle at point of release... not sure how much further you can go out with the NYRs having another guy coming down the other wing?
Wasn't really expecting a win at MSG after winning 3 in a row... team showed a lot of good things; just need to continue that and not get down on themselves as the Pittsburgh game will also be a very tough win to get.

Stajan with the goat horns today over Elliott too IMO.

I missed the game. I see Chiasson was on the ice for all 3 even strength goals against. Was it bad luck or bad play?

Yeah Stajan, and the Bennett line as well. Top 6 chipped in while the bottom 6 let them down. Elliott not great, but not terrible. But we need better than just okay from him. ~.900 SV% does not win games often.

I thought Bennett was great today. The ice seemed tilted in our favour when he was on and he was dominant on the boards.
I checked the stats to see if they agreed with my perception and he posted a 76% Corsi.

No use blaming the rules on that one. It's cut and dried and everyone knows it. No one to blame but Versteeg. Pretty stupid of him actually.
Loved his exit though!

I really don't see how people can watch this team on the regular and still Excuse the goaltending. It matters not if it deflected or not. He was poorly positioned and once again our goalies don't come up with a relatively routine save that 99% of the other teams in the playoff race are getting. How many times do we walk away saying the other teams goalie stole a game from us? Tons. I can't honestly think of a game outside of that one early in the year against Chicago that ours have won.
Yeah our defence is bad at times, but I think people underestimate just how much of a effect it has on your team when you know you have no help and every mistake is likely going to end up in the back of the net. Derrick wills and Loubo came right out on the post game show a couple of weeks ago and said the Flames has zero confidence in their goaltending and it was effecting all their play.

These are issues that working with a goalie coach should iron out. It just seems that every goalie that comes through lately has a weakness that's leading to bad goals against and don't seem to improve on it over their tenure here. Eventually you have to call the goalie coach into question. That or the goalie is just stubbornly sticking to their habits or being complacent. I dunno.

Looked to me that Bennett abandoned the slot to rush the defender coming down the half boards and Vertseeg got caught watching from the low slot and not covering the point where he should have had said defender...
But certainly not Elliott's fault.

Versteeg and Chiasson are both on the left side of the ice - Bennett had to challenge the point shot, otherwise that player has an unchallenged shot.
You're just on a witch hunt if you're looking to blame Bennett on that one.

Hoping the extended rest and watching the Superbowl can help Johnson mentally prepare for Pittsburgh. No easy task. His last decent stretch of games was Jan 7-13ish... let's pray he goes on another hot streak.

NHL.com has given the 3rd goal to Tkachuk. He must have deflected the puck off the shaft of his stick. That's 10 goals for him.

Yeah, the highlight description is that Tkachuk creates the turn over then tips in Backlund's shot.

I knew it! One way you can tell who scored is when the guy in front skates away by himself and the other players follow him to celebrate. This is exactly what Tkachuk did and Backlund pointed right at him and followed him to the corner.
I'm surprised there was no debate at all on air. Actually, I'm not surprised.

Maybe I should continue avoiding watching more

Agreed. These types of games are also disappointing because it shows what this team is actually capable of, making their periods of really awful play stand out even more...
If they had showed this type of resolve at the start of the year, or even just during that Mtl/Tor stretch, this loss could be viewed as one that sometimes happens to good teams, rather than one that lost us badly needed points in a tight playoff race.

Thought Chiasson had a good game up until the third. He shouldn't be on the PK either. Bennett and Versteeg also were good up until the third. Bennett just seems lost defensively and doesn't know where to go when the puck gets passed around a bit. He was the key culprit on 2 goals.
Reffing was bad again but what else is new. Two clear penalties in the last 5 minutes went uncalled.
