I agree Elliott still looked to be too far in his crease regardless.
But at least the shot itself wasn't as clean as it appeared (I thought it was clean too from the SNET replays).
Deflections like that from anywhere are pretty tough.

Got in a fight and didn't have his jersey tied down.
So basically he's a monster.

Hope so. Need him back in Nov-Dec form.
Now I'm in no way saying the team needs to acquire Ramo, but when he let in bad goals it's because he over played a previous shot and was left out of position. I find those goals a hell of a lot more tolerable than just soft, muffin shots that Elliott seems to let in once a game. Brad has another big task this offseason to try and find an at least above average goaltender.

Stabbed Girardi to death with his skate, sprinted around the rink after the rink crew and then launched himself into the stands to fight a drunken Ranger fan.
The refs tossed him after the replay showed his tie-down was not done up properly.

So everyone blames Elliot but what about the Grabner goal where every player drifts across the ice and leaves Grabner all on his own to fire into the empty net, or was that Elliotts fauult as well??

Yup pretty much played it how you would normally, so did Elliot (he was at the top of his crease when the puck passed him, skating backwards and playing the potential pass/rebound to the player on his left). But because they are the 16/17 whipping boys they suck and that's why we lost.
They just won 3 in a row and lost a 1 goal game to a top team in the afternoon... relax everyone.

It might have been a deflection. But it wasn't like the puck was deflected from 1 foot away. Pretty much as soon as it left the shooters stick, it deflect and travelled to the net.
Pretend the defenceman was never there. Instead , the player shoots the puck from exactly where the puck was deflected from and it goes in. Most people would consider that a weak goal.
I'm not expecting Elliott to make the save if it's deflected right in front. But 20 ft away with no traffic? Good goalies make those saves. Sub .900 don't, and that's why their numbers sucks.
Hopefully Johnson comes in and can make a decent run. But 3-1 in their last 4 is pretty good, with the team out playing the other team today. Hopefully that's a decent sign.

Good Game,
Thought Calgary deserved to win.
3rd goal on Elliot, kinda soft. Top of the slot and deflected off Widemans skate, still far enough out that he should of had it.
The Stajan give away was horrible, so was his penalty in the first period in the offensive zone away from the play. If anyone is looking for a goat this game it is stajan!
Good for Versteeg, good for Ferland. About time this team showed some emotion and stood up for themselves and teamates.
Sucks that we lost but I did enjoy the game.

Nah, that's on Chiasson and Versteeg. Blew defensive zone coverage.

To be fair most feel he had a great game outside the deflection where he either was too far inside the crease or went down too early. Not too many comments on the Grabner goal.

I agree Elliott's been a whipping boy this season but he's not mine. I've defended him numerous times when people weren't giving him credit when he was on his winning streak. I won't defend him when he lets in bad goals though. It's the same for Johnson.

Elliott was good. Wideman was not. Could have used Versteeg the rest if the game. Funny that he waved, less so that he didn't look after something so obvious as keeping his jersey tied down.

Sometimes you need the goalie to make the miraculous save or two.
Even if the team is giving piss poor coverage the odd shift (still no excuse, but they seem to be very human in the defensive zone).
Teams like Montreal and the old Flames could afford to. I wish we could. The Flames have to play a pretty mistake-free game this days to get their wins.

From a goalie's perspective, the biggest issue on the third goal by Elliott was the fact that he was sliding back into his net as the shot was released. As a goalie you have to be set in place when the shot comes. By him sliding backwards while the shot is coming his angle for what area his glove is covering is changing and is covering less area of the net. So basically what area he thinks he has covered with his glove when the shot is released from the stick is different (and smaller) by the time it gets to the net.
