Iam a little intrigued by Eric Gelinas. 6'4 215lb dman that is only 25 and was originally a 2nd round pick of the devils. He had 29 pts in 60 games in his first year in league and then was traded to Colorado for a 3rd round pick.He was also a 1st round pick back in junior so there definitely has to be some skill there."Shoots the puck with aplomb. Has great size (6-4, 215 pounds) for a defenseman, as well as plenty of offensive ability. Is at his best when he uses his big body to his advantage".Maybe with the right coach this guy could be a interesting pickup.Any thoughts has anyone seen him play before?

The Flames and 28 other teams already passed on Gelinas when he was on waivers in December. Don't think anything changed in that time in how they view him

Stajan not your cup of tea?
Might I suggest some Bouma with that??

There's a reason one of the worst defence cores in the league has waived this guy. He isn't very good. Could he become better under a different coach? I guess anybody could. Nothing to indicate this guy is better than Jokipakka, Wotherspoon or Kulak

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
LeBrun: "As of yesterday, there didn't seem to be a big market for either Marc-Andre Fleury or Ben Bishop." Still early. #Pens #TBLightning

Have to think Calgary has to be a front runner with them. Johnson or Elliot are the perfect piece to send back as well.

Dallas has bad goalie contracts. St Louis and Winnipeg would probably be interested too

Unless Bishop's demands have changed substantially, not sure the Flames are any more interested now than they were before acquiring Elliott.

Neither goalie is an upgrade at the moment plus one has term left. Leave well enough alone and keep the flexibility.

If Elliott can maintain the play of his last 10 games I don't see why the Flames would be involved in trading anything for these guys as they can ride out the season and evaluate things in the offseason. It's beginning to look like Fleury will be had for cheap prior to the expansion draft and Bishop's hopes of a long term $6/7 million deal have vanished and he's going to have to accept a short term "show me" deal or longer term deal at less than $5 million per season.

Seems like he's having a down year.

That could help.

Totally agree with this. My stance all along this whole season is to ride out both goalies, and then see what the options are in the off season. There's going to be an abundance of options IMO that Flames can go after, so there's no reason to commit longterm to any goalie at the moment.

I've checked and Eric Gelinas is no relation to Marty. Pass!

There's a perfectly good reason to look at Fleury and Bishop - both of our goalies are currently UFA at year's end and are unsigned.

No guarantee they want to come back to Calgary either.

Bishop is a UFA as well and having a terrible season. Not sure trading Elliott for Bishop makes much sense.

I don't think Bishop is an upgrade at this point. PLus, he gets injured so much.

And MAF is absolutely not an upgrade in any way.

We have Elliott. We should not be going after MAF or Bishop.

I'm more interested in signing Johnson than I am Elliott.

Johnson looks like the perfect backup, capable of getting hot and taking the net for a strong stretch.

At this point Rutherford is going to have to give away or give up a draft pick for another team to take MA Fluery on.

And Bishop is in the same boat as Elliot. Pending UFA struggling with lots to prove.

I still hope that the Flames call up Rittich for a stretch to see what they have in him, and if he is worth re-signing. Tough to get him those starts in the midst of a playoff race, however, and tough to make Elliott or Johnson a scratch as their confidence seems low at times as it is.

Rittich has cooled off quite a bit lately. There was a time I thought he might get a call-up, but I don't think that's happening now. Gillies has been the better goalie over the last month or so.
