I'm thinking the SCOTUS pick tonight won't be a hard core conservative like everyone assumes. Today is betray the GOP day.

Pulling back would first take the self awareness to realize that he's potentially looking like a fool. Trump is the man in his own world, he absolutely thinks he's just killing it right now.

An interesting morning read:
Quote:
The key to a successful insurrection, Vladimir Lenin wrote three days before the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, was the seizure of the telephone and telegraph. Every Soviet child, including myself, learned this dictum in the fourth grade.
In the 21st century, I never thought I’d have reason to reflect on Lenin’s advice again. The Soviet Union is long gone; I now live in the US. Then, in the first month of the centennial anniversary of the Russian Revolution, Americans inaugurated Donald Trump as their 45th president. This is a man who, in alliance with most radical elements of the Republican Party, has flooded the country’s media channels with fake news and conspiracy theories. If Trump hasn’t yet seized the modern-day equivalents of the telephone and the telegraph, he has certainly managed to scramble their signals.
Does Trump’s victory and his cabinet appointments genuinely amount to a government takeover akin to the one staged by the Bolshevik Party in 1917? If we view Trump’s “movement” as a radical faction within the Republican Party that has swept him to power despite opposition from within the party, the comparison is not as far-fetched as it may seem

i think a 3rd party just splits the lefts vote since they are the majority. The 40% republicans aren't budging.

The republicans are going to spend a lot of time butt hurt over Trump decisions. I don't think outside of running under the party name he is really a modern republican.

Trump used the two-party system to catapult himself to the throne, and is basically POTUS as an independent, or at least a far-right offshoot. Pretty genius really, since anything outside of the Dems or Repubs has virtually no chance.

US used to be a more than 2 party system, hopefully Trump's presidency will bring back a third option.

Probably best to get past this simple kind of stuff.
Great article in National Review today on Steve Bannon.
The whole thing is a lot more complicated. However, he does stand at the centre of a maelstrom that threatens to rip the United States apart.
Quote:
Furthermore, as some on the left have been more attuned to than their conservative counterparts, the problem is not whether Bannon himself subscribes to a noxious strain of political nuttery; it’s that his de facto endorsement of it enables it to spread and to claim legitimacy, and that what is now a vicious fringe could, over time, become mainstream. The U.S. is not going to see pogroms or “internment camps” spring up in January. But countries require bonds of trust among citizens — including those citizens elected to be leaders. The Left gnawed at those bonds with its thoughtless commitment to cosmopolitan virtues. But the Right threatens to sever them entirely if it continues to court the proponents of ethno-nationalism, or trade in their rhetoric.

They're Christians actually. They assumed as Christians they would never be affected by anything Trump did. As usual people have to learn the hardest way possible. Too bad people are actually contributing to their GoFundMe, and I suspect many who have did not know they voted for Trump. I doubt they'd donate if they did.
