It wouldn't have stopped anything the US has experienced.
His misguided thinking is probably that he is preventing the attacks that happened in Germany and France. Those that might have been partly due to some regional attitudes about Muslim culture. So, maybe Trump is just opening up America even more to similar attacks in the US once/if he starts implementing more anti-Muslim measures.

I get the feeling most Trump voters would say that Murica has an impeccable global reputation (when republicans are in power) and that they are the greatest country in the history of the 6000 year old world.
They think Trump is restoring the reputation those abortion and terrorist loving Obama Dems tried to tarnish.

Just keep marginalizing groups of people and you will have plenty of home-grown terrorists.

What like the FBI? Or homeland security, or the Texas Rangers? I doubt he's going to be able to roll in the national guard or the military without finding a way around Posse Comitatus
I think that the only exemptions that can apply is if the State Government requests it, and I doubt that's going to happen.
If its considered to be in support of the Insurrection Act which is what happened in LA
Or if its a law enforcement situation that revolves around NBC materials.
I can't see him being able to use any of the above to move federal forces in that involve the military unless he can convince the Governor of the State and he's already said he doesn't want the national guard in Chicago.

You may want to educate yourself on the changing energy policy of the US over the past eight years, and shifting energy policy across the world. None of what is said in that article changes anything I said. The executive order is great for the O&G sector, which is good for Calgary, but it is counter to the direction the nation and world needs to go. It also is an affront to sovereignty of the First Nations, but what does that matter? The O&G sector is the most important thing, right?

I don't have the foggiest idea, I'm just reporting what he inferred. Something along the lines of 'clean it up or I will' in one of his ridiculous meandering interviews.
And he seems like he intends to do what he says he will do. Given his first week's work.

It's still nonsensical. This is not in any way stoping the "acquiescence" of the American moral high ground. It's absolutely tangibly dividing real people irrespective of a moral compass. If anything, it's the opposite.
Just because you can see why an uneducated idiot in rural America is scared of radical islamism, doesn't decrease the idiocy of this move. It's still unbelievably stupid

That can change though. I don't think our world operates anymore in a way that you can have the luxury to close your eyes and not care about what the rest of the world thinks of you.
Too globalized and interconnected. Americans will watch their standard of living deteriorate under Trump, and then they will start to care a little more.

Oil demand on this planet is still growing, and very likely will for 10-20 years yet. These lines fill demand in the safest, most efficient way possible. Sure it's good for producers but it's good for every consumer as well. Demand is what it is without these lines. If those lines are not built the same amount of oil is produced globally ( less in can and ND though) but will cost more and pose a much greater environmental risk via worse transport methods.
Just because a OG co makes money it doesn't mean everything associated with it is evil.
If the world 'needs' to go in the direction you are ill using to, blocking lines 98%build and approved by the AC of engineers solves nothing. The world will move the way you are thinking is through reduced demand and economic substitute. Your way of thinking is misery loves company so let's try to find ways to bully the oil companies.

You mean the one where the US is at record natural gas production and near-record oil production?

The one where 78-79% of human energy usage is provided by fossil fuels for years now and despite large investments into the unreliable renewables, they provide less energy to humanity than burning wood?

Ah but if you read trumps statement he invokes 9/11 three times, despite the fact that none of the terrorists were from countries that he has put on the ban list!

If electrification of the transportation system takes off (and why shouldn't it?) one report has demand for oil dropping by 60%.
I'm not saying that will happen, but the possibility of that happening is real...and I don't think being caught off guard for that possibility is acceptable.

It just boggles my mind that anyone thinks Trump has anything resembling a plan here. Almost all the available evidence suggests he's just making it up as he goes, and doesn't actually know what he's doing.
