Saw as far as the first two goals in a bar, then had to go do something else -- so caught the rest on DTMTS. Bit sad to see that tying goal go in, but you can't stop 'em all and it looked like the Sens were pretty desperate.
LOVED the Johnny jump! Great celebration and a load off everyone's shoulders, I'm sure!
Who said "set in stone"? They looked decent tonight with that combination, why not see if it works for a longer term?
That's true but I wouldn't mind them trying a couple new looks over the next few games. Maybe something clicks that we haven't seen yet, like a Gaudreau with Backlund or a Gaudreau with Tkachuk. Ir was nice to see Gaudreau have an actual top 6 player on his RW, that line looked calm and responsible the whole night and no blunders were made. Frolik is Very responsible in his own end and a nice complement to Johnny and Mony imo. Doesn't have the possible potential of what a Gaudreau-Monahan/Backlund-Tkachuk line would have but it's a safe option that should work. Monys goal was a thing of beauty. Nice to see him look confident unlike the Mony of the first 2 months of the season. He's got hands of gold around the net and it's nice to see him using them!
Johnny getting on a roll here would be great to see. I don't want to blame Chiasson for all of Gaudreaus misfortunes this year but those guys have zero chemistry together and it was painful to watch him being stapled to Johnny. Nice little win while the Flames can reset over the break and come back with a renewed vengeance. Past is the past, they play with the same passion as they did this game the rest of the season won't be as bad as we all started to think. People have wrote this team off so no pressure... Right?
Johnny's play to strip Karlsson of the puck in OT was super high-risk/high-reward.
Luckily it worked out, but if Karlsson had maintained control it would have been a 3-on-1 for Ottawa with Johnny lying prone and Backlund stuck up ice. Was so nice to see that puck squirt out to Backlund.
Tough crowd. He was screened twice and had to play deep since there were 6 Sens on the ice, if he came out to challenge he would have let the other side of the net wide open where the Sens outnumbered the Flames. He's let in some stinkers this year, but he was solid tonight and that wasn't a bad goal. If he wasn't screened I'd agree, but he was.
Perhaps I'm being a little harsh on him, but he doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt just yet. Letting in the goal with less than a minute in the game when the team really needed the win makes that goal hard to stomach. I felt it was stoppable for the reasons I mentioned (not square to the shooter, way too deep in his net for a point shot). He wasn't tested much in regulation, but he did come up big in OT which is why I said he was forgiven. I still think he was good overall, I just question his approach to playing goal at times, and I think it costs the team goals they shouldn't necessarily give up.
A step in the right direction, but he still needs to clean up his game some.

Ya, if Elliott is out farther from his net, maybe the screen in front is a bit of contact from the sens player? But being that far in his net, I don't think he had a chance.
Great to see him have a great OT, I thought we were done for with all the pressure the sens were putting on us.
You could see the relief on Johnny's face, he needed that. Please keep Chaisson away from JG and only have skilled guys with our skilled guys.
Solid road win, they did the things the coach wanted them too. Played hard, played the system properly and didn't give up.
Keep this going, winning is much more fun!

A man down dictates the tender stays deeper in the crease, or else you wind up with a lot of wide open net chances from the back side.

Also quick side note, Johnny has Karlsson's number. Seems to always play well against him.
I thought it went both ways last night. 2-3 times Gaudreau tried to dangle around the Sens D and Karlsson calmly and smoothly just tied him up and knocked the puck away. I thought he did a good job of taking his space away for most of the night. As someone said, that final play it OT was a pretty high risk play that could have easily made Gaudreau the goat, but finally the Flames got a bounce go their way. If we would have lost, I was even going to make a post about how Karlsson made Gaudreau his bitch all night.
Luckily that didn't happen

No garbage goals let in from Elliott. That gives me hope that he gains a little confidence and goes on a roll. Same with Gaudreau. If we want to start salvaging we need the top players to start stepping up.
Elliott was great last night. Now it just feels like people are dumping on him for the sake of dumping on him. Tough to fault him on either goal in my mind, and was huge in OT.
