They sure get trapped in their own zone a lot. And Kevin is just not good at offence at all.

|
Absolutely. The trajectory Brodie was on last year was phenomenal, and he was developing into an irreplaceable force for the Flames. There were talks of Brodie being one of the best defencemen in the NHL -- he was aimed at stardom!
Getting that back is crucial. Losing your best dman is tough, and much more important to get back than worrying about your 5-6. There are enough options out there to plug that up if it's costing you games. But a star dman? That's tough to get.
It's insane to me that GG hasn't fixed this yet. Brodie has a lot going on, so I can't say definitively that the switch is what has caused this but it certainly hasn't helped. Brodie absolutely earned the credit on this team to be asked "what do you need to succeed". I'm sure his answer will be returning to Gio. At the Wings game I ran into a group that grew up around Brodie. They are obviously well aware of his issues at home, and were dead-set that forcing him to play his off side was the primary cause of the problems this year.

You said it was "funny" some people are talking about other line combos like it's preposterous.
It's still very much up in the air right now and I'd be open to anything that works.

I thought Bennett had a really strong game defensively.
Saying Brodie was at fault because of the turnover on the 2nd goal is laughable. First of all, it was in the neutral zone, after he cleared the zone. And 2nd, he passed it right to the forward and it bounced off the blade of their stick. How on earth is that a turnover by Brodie? And no, it didn't cause the goal.
I thought Elliott was a bit deep on the 2nd goal as well, but as someone said, there was traffic in front. And more importantly, he won it in OT. Just win baby! Great game by Elliott.

It's a post game thread after a win. That's why it's funny.

IIRC it was called a turnover (by Hrudey among others) because it wasn't an accurate pass - it was behind I think, and the forward had to try and adjust (unsuccessfully) and it went back immediately instead of going deep. I think the point was there were easier, less risky plays.
It wasn't a direct cause of the goal, but it set up the events. The goal was caused more directly by a Flame forward skating in front of Elliott at just the wrong moment.

A win in OT, where there were no lines.
Through 60 mins we scored two goals and then blew a 2 goal lead in the third.
Again, it was enough I think there can be discussion about the lines without it being "funny".

Watch it again. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, the forward just didn't handle it. It didn't set up the events of the goal. It was a routine pass to the forward in the neutral zone. Hrudey was just wrong in his call.

Through 60 minutes they were the better team, on the road. The lines worked well. The Monahan/Frolik/Gaudreau line produced on of those two goals. Might as well see if they continue to work well.
Yeah, they blew a lead, but on a couple blown plays.

Which Flames forward's stick did the Brodie pass bounce off of? Couldn't watch the game because regional restrictions.

Chiasson actually had a good game but I agree he shouldn't be anywhere near a skilled line.
