At what point are people going to recognize that Trump and his spokespeople are going to say dumb, weird, inaccurate stuff multiple times a week, every week, for the next four years? And when are his critics and the media going to start discussing policy, instead of getting sucked into this tit-for-tat playground stuff? Didn't Jon Stewart call b*llsh*t on this style of reporting years ago?

I understand some people follow politics as a kind of sports/entertainment spectacle. But that's exactly what Trump wants - to turn American politics into a circus.

Trump to CIA

And I want to just let you know: I am so behind you. And I know maybe sometimes you haven’t gotten the backing that you’ve wanted. And you’re going to get so much backing. Maybe you’re going to say: “Please don’t give us so much backing”. “Mr President, please, we don’t need that much backing.”
lol, what a moran.

It's like trying to compliment Oiler/Leaf/Canuck management on the FOI side. You must disavow 3-4 times in your post, lest someone attack you for being a rival fan.

Have you read through the thread?
There's a few posters (one in particular) that are clearly not completely against Trump.

No, I was just ranting at Spicer. He obviously thinks we're all stupid and that Trump wouldn't be deeply upset at the crowd numbers even if the media barely covered it.

I agree that his wording isn't very good.

But is his message wrong? He wants to support the CIA... and what about that is wrong in your opinion?

I think he's smart for supporting the CIA.

You're missing the point

Quote:
White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday disputed reports that administration loyalists stacked President Trump's Saturday meeting at the CIA to create the illusion of strong support within the agency.

When asked about the CBS report that said the administration flooded the room with 40 people who were loudly cheering the president, Spicer pushed back.

"I don't think that's accurate at all. If you listen to the audio, you can hear the excitement that exists there," he said, referring to the administration's presence there as a "very small footprint" of 10 people at most.

Reporters at the event noted that many members of the front row stood up to cheer Trump during the speech, while the senior leadership of the agency did not.

But Spicer said everyone in the first row during the CIA speech was from the agency, dismissing the accusations that those who stood were planted by Trump's team.
Intelligence sources told CBS that agency employees were "uncomfortable" with the cheers and that it "made relations with the intelligence community worse."

Trump has had a rocky relationship with the intelligence community since his election. For months, he questioned the intelligence consensus that Russia was behind the hacks on the Democratic National Committee and other Democratic organizations, noting in a statement that "these are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction."

While Trump ultimately said he thinks Russia was behind the hacks, he further blasted the intelligence community for a leak about an unverified dossier of allegedly damaging information about him.

Spicer dismissed any talk of a rift between Trump and his intelligence agencies, adding that the president wanted to make it clear that what's seen in the media — both allegations of a rift and reports downplaying the size of the crowd at his inauguration — isn't accurate.

"I think he wanted them to know you see and hear all this stuff on TV about this rift that so-called exists, it doesn't matter. Don't believe what you are hearing," he said.

Yeah but what I mean is: are there any non-maniacs who aren't against him?

This thread is a giant anti-Trump circle-jerk and it's keeping all but the true hardcore Trump supporters silent.

I am not FOR him per se, I just don't think all the hatred is warranted. I just want more civility in the anti-Trump discussion, if that's even possible.

See, you thank a post by cliff fletcher saying whatever trump or his administration is meaningless and then take Trump more or less at his word for what was an otherwise small and unimportant part of his speech where he also suggested war crimes might be the order of the day in future wars with Iraq.

I don't know how you square these two things.

I was reading this article last night which I though was interesting. The cheering during Trump's speech to the CIA was apparently people he brought with him. I've also read that he paid some of these individuals.

Quote:
An official said the visit “made relations with the intelligence community worse” and described the visit as “uncomfortable.”

Authorities are also pushing back against the perception that the CIA workforce was cheering for the president. They say the first three rows in front of the president were largely made up of supporters of Mr. Trump’s campaign.

An official with knowledge of the make-up of the crowd says that there were about 40 people who’d been invited by the Trump, Mike Pence and Rep. Mike Pompeo teams. The Trump team expected Rep. Pompeo, R-Kansas, to be sworn in during the event as the next CIA director, but the vote to confirm him was delayed on Friday by Senate Democrats. Also sitting in the first several rows in front of the president was the CIA’s senior leadership, which was not cheering the remarks.

Officials acknowledge that Mr. Trump does have his supporters within the CIA workforce, many of whom were interspersed among the rank and file standing off to the president’s right.

There were about 400 members of the workforce who RSVP’d for the event out of thousands who received an invitation in their email late last week. Officials dismiss White House claims that there were people waiting to get into the event.

Intelligence sources say many in the workforce were stunned and at times offended by the president’s tone which seemed to evolve into a version of speeches he’d used on the campaign trail.

Calling them the 'intelligence' community for months probably hasnt helped him. But maybe they can 'forgive' him and 'help' him going forward.
