Hes made some mistakes, sure, but that was bound to happen. At the same time I think there are some things that are being attributed to him as mistakes that he really didnt have all that much control over such as seemingly good goaltenders forgetting how to play in net and the coaching...well I'm torn on that still.
If hes still around near the Trade Deadline then I imagine that this is one of those scenarios where his contract is more or less established they just havent gotten around to the signing part of it yet.

I don't know how any fan can be down on Treliving for the Johnson deal as he was signed to be a backup and he's been better than advertised. All that has been confirmed with his recent play is that he can't be counted on as a starting goaltender but as a backup I don't think you can do any better. Elliott hasn't been as good as advertised but if you really look he's not been given a chance to run with the job as the coach has handed Johnson starts recently in spite of him no being sharp early in games. I would hope at the very least if Elliott strings together a few good games that he's allowed to go on a long run as the team gave up a 2nd round pick for him and should try to at least see what's there before turning the page in the offseason.

100% agree with this.
First Florida...now the Flames. Why do I have to follow teams with such stupid ownership? Is there a team with good owners that I can start cheering for? I honestly can't think of any/many.

Do we know it's the owners or are they the easy target?

Honestly I wouldn't care much either way. He hasn't been awful but he hasn't been great either.

This was likely leaked by one of 2 guys--Burke or Treliving. Friedman would not release this rumour if not from one of these 2 sources. If it's coming from Burke it's a signal to Brad that performance thus far is not acceptable and a reminder that his neck is on the line if he doesn't right the ship. If Brad put this out there it's an attempt to force an extension deal (I don't see Brad going this route and Friedman's language didn't suggest this from what I heard). I see Burke sticking with Brad, but he's getting his p#%&er slapped for the poor coaching hire that has been daylighted.

Having a decent level-headed GM is still a boon in this league. In the NHL, if you have a bonehead GM for even 1 year you end up paying for the mistakes that get made for years and years beyond.

If this is how Burke manages he needs to be fired right now.
If you are right, and he is signally a top level employee he isn't happy with his performance by leaking worries to the media instead of talking to him, it would make Burke a terrible manager, and mean the Flames are indeed the Mickey Mouse of the NHL in terms of how they manage.
-Or-
It is a crazy idea and untrue.
The other option you presented is almost equally as rotten.

I would be careful about using that as basis for your argument. Flames have been incredibly healthy, had superior goaltending and by end of this week or next week, could be on pace for an equivalent or worse season. Would that change your mind?
IMO Treliving deserves more time because he has proved to be patient and not made stupid short term decisions for the most part. I wish I had more insight into the choices the Flames had in hiring a coach, or other potential deals that may have been out there that Treliving chose not to pursue. Or what his plan is for the next off season. Or frankly what the Flames know about the quality of the team's leadership and strength of the locker room.
But if he's not brought back, I am sure of a few things:
GG is gone.
Burke is either behind this or he also will be gone.

There was no rumour released. Friedman is only questioning the fact that Treliving isn't under contract for next season being odd and not what any other team typically does. There was no 'insider' information released.

I am no Burke fan but I find it impossible to believe he would communicate with Treliving through Friedman or the local radio station. Treliving is aware he does not have a contract for next season.

It might change my mind, sure, but this is isn't the case now, so why would I think that?
I also disagree with the health of the team. Monahan started the season with a back injury bad enough to keep him out of the world cup and training camp, Gaudreau missed ~10 games and came back with a hand injury. Brouwer has missed ~10 games and he was brought in to be a top 6 forward. So far, the flames have lost 110 games to injury which looks like it will eclipse last season's 204 by season's end.

Lol, you do know what sarcasm is right?
Flash was saying that the Flames are "statistically better in every category" this season, which has translated in 2 more wins (4pts) then last season. Hardly something to get all excited about, the team is just as terrible as it was last year.

Not it isn't!
The flames were DEAD LAST in the league at the end of december last year, owning both the worst powerplay and the worst penalty kill.
They are in a playoff spot right now.
Tell me how they are worse. Prove it to me. Show me an example of how they are worse.

Yes to your first question, as "sarcasm" is something I've seen in the past.
However, are you somehow arguing against "statistically better in every category" with "Hardly something to get all excited about, the team is just as terrible as it was last year"?

We'll have to disagree on the injury front. Gaudreau's injury is the only meaningful injury team has faced. And you're right, team is on pace for 85 points, compared to 77 from last year. I would argue that is due to
1) removing Hiller, a move any fool would have made
2) a weaker Western conference
3) a team that mailed it in after the deadline last year, losing a couple of key players and playing goalies that should not have even been in the league
and does not yet reflect general improvement.
I am all for bringing Treliving back but I am more in the being patient camp vs. the camp that sees meaningful improvement on the ice.

Never said they were worse, just that they aren't really that much better then last year in terms of wins/losses.
There is no disputing that they have been much better statistically then last year, but it has only resulted in 2 more wins, which is very frustrating.
Still 33 games left, they just might be able to pull off a wildcard spot, we'll just have to wait and see I guess.
