The media seem to have caught on a little bit to the reffing bias (I've heard comments a couple times during highlight reels), and if other GM's are paying attention, why would they want Wideman anywhere near their team?

Add that with Wideman's contract terms.. moving him is next to impossible. Adding him to any trade convo seems silly IMO.
He will likely get a contract but it's not going to be long term or high dollar. I think he can be useful in a bottom pairing role for a team where he can play on the 2nd PP unit if they are in need of a point man. We are just tired of him because of his play relative to his contract and the official incident last season that has appeared to negatively impact the Flames somewhat.

Yeah, which is why trading a defenseman, and a forward, and a goalie for him is ludicrous.

Yup, almost 100% this is Wideman's last season in the NHL. He might get offered a $1 million contract next season but I don't see why he wouldn't just retire instead. He has made his money.

He still needs a cup ring. If a cap crunch perennial cup contender team like Chicago or Pittsburgh offered him a $1 mil contract for one year, he will probably take it.

It's as if people don't understand, to put in the effort to be able to play in this league, it goes deeper than how much money they have made off with. They actually love the sport. I don't understand the "he already has enough money, why doesn't he retire?" mentality.

Because it was never about that. Just a huge perk.

I think there is something as well to not being wanted.

Glencross retired pretty damn quick when it looked like he was going to have to go to a training camp to try to earn a short term deal.

Wideman last two years in the league have probably not been as care free as the two previous.

Eventually it is no longer fun.

Wideman on a one million dollar deal and no reffing bias is a sweet deal.

The Schultz thing is a question of Brodie capable of being on the left. If he starts to be able to return to form, then I support offer sheeting or trading for Schultz. If not, then the Flames need a LD in the top 4

Insider trading:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video

While many times coach firing speculation is fan and media driven, there does appear to be a credible threat to Julien's job security in Boston

Shattenkirk open to many potential teams
Leafs, Rangers, Bruins, Detroit, San Jose, Ducks, back to the Avs are all possibilities

still possible Ducks move a young d-man, not something they particularly want to do but teams are calling
calling on Montour, Theodore, J. Larsson - possible one of them gets moved for an impact top 6 forward
Teams that need young D include Toronto, Tampa, Colorado, and the list goes on.
Ducks probably don't want a center

Vrbata is attractive rental player
but his bonuses might scare off teams
he gets a $250k bonus if his team makes it to the playoffs and an additional $250k for each playoff round that they win
so $1million + which will carry over to next year might scare off any tight to the cap teams

Blue Jackets not in the market for rentals, want something that will help them past this season
Looking for a Center and backup goalie

NHL is working with a few companies including a German company that specializes in electromagnetic technology to determine where the puck is or was which will help in goal line controversies.
Apparently they also tested an infared solution at the World Cup but no one noticed

One guy from the Jackets that I wish the Flames could get their hands on is David Savard. I think he would be the best D-Partner for Brodie or 2nd fiddle behind Hamilton in the line-up as a shutdown guy.

Dont know what it would take but im gonna throw this out there in light of today's healthy scratch.

Sam Bennett to CBJ

David Savard and Kerby Rychel to CGY

Let the Flaming begin!

Probably, but very unlikely a well run team would try to sign Wideman. If Wideman wanted the Cup more than the money he probably wouldn't have signed with a declining team 5 years ago.

Totally forgot about that. Stupid Hockeys future site has him listed still as their LW Prospect still.

Dont really think anyone else could fit the bill... Sonny Milano is a C and their best prospect C at that, Bittner is still pretty green and too soon to tell what youre gonna get and LW to boot.

Heatherington would be a nice piece too but not for Bennett.

So.. Nevermind.. Bennett doesnt get traded to CBJ.

Huh? Didn't Glencross attend two teams training camps on PTO's and then retired after being cut by both?

you might be right. I seem to remember him retiring relatively quickly after it looked like he wasn't going to get a job.

Maybe he a tryout in toronto?
