I wonder what the Oilers want for Eberle. Wideman + Brouwer/Versteeg and Elliot to fill their holes?

Jesus Christ.
Maybe you should stop reading HF boards.

Maybe you should pay attention. Eberle has two years left for a whopping 6 million when all he's doing is floating. The Oilers fans can't wait to get rid of him. Before he would float and score goals, but this year he's on pace for 15. He's getting assists from playing on the top line, but still, 40-50pts isn't cutting it. Him and Nuge are just garbage this year and their value is dwindling further and further each year

Well this season Versteeg has been better than Eberle and they need a RW, especially if they part with Ebs. They also don't have a competent back-up and are riding Talbot pretty hard. And of course they need RD, one who can play offense.
I know people trash on Wideman, but he's been probably the 2nd most consistent and steady D on the Flames this season. Gio has disappeared and Brodie has been abysmal. Hamilton had been the #1 and Wides has definitely been a top4 guy. People just rag on him because Brodie sucks this year and they need a fall guy. Plus hes not the fastest defender.
Chances are the Oilers go after Shattenkirk and Vanek. Or perhaps Barrie and Armia. It's easy to be the critic when you don't throw ideas around (likely because everyones a critic) but doesn't mean the Flames don't give up a piece like Andersson or Philips too in order to help the Oilers crappy prospect pool.

Ya know... this is gonna sound crazy but Justin Schultz may be a better free agent catch this summer than Kevin Shattenkirk if the Penguins are forced not to qualify him due to arbitration. He could look good as Wideman's replacement on our second pair with Brodie.

Surprised the Oilers haven't re-signed Russell yet.
But if the Avs will take a goalie in the Landeskog sweepstakes, let me introduce you to Jon Gillies as part of a package

If we had a more stable long term solution in net right now, I'd absolutely be on board with using Parsons or Gillies as trading chips. Right now though...Gillies and Parsons seem like prospects we can't afford to move.

If the Avs deal Landeskog to the Flames, they won't want goalie prospects...they'll want older Flames who are on the downswing: Stajan, Wideman, Engelland & Bollig and then maybe some picks to waste. Landeskog would be great if he wasn't a left shooting left winger, but he is. I just don't see him as a fit with this team.

If the Oilers get Shattenkirk, I'd imagine that would be the end of the line for Russell

They would want some bad contracts too.

Not everything has to be a blockbuster, he could be a good low risk-high reward option and has size.

Shattenkirk would be a rental. According to RSN his preference is to sign with the Rangers in the offseason.

Landeskog would replace Tkachuk who moves to the right side. Problem solved.

Not saying I agree or disagree, but I wonder, is Justin Schultz dumb enough to hang the Pens out to dry? I feel like he owes that organization, along with Crosby and Malkin, the rest of his career. They took a chance on him when nobody else believed he was an NHL-level dman anymore, and in less than a year they've given him a Stanley Cup and he's developed into the dman everyone thought he could be back in college.
He was on the brink of extinction in this league just 12 months ago, and then the Pens pulled him in and now the kid probably has another 10yrs+ and 45M+ ahead of him.

He chose the Oilers over 29 actual NHL franchises. Clearly his mental acuity is no good.

Does Dennis Wideman get a new contract for next year?
Or does he get the Curtis Glencross treatment and is essentially done?
The media seem to have caught on a little bit to the reffing bias (I've heard comments a couple times during highlight reels), and if other GM's are paying attention, why would they want Wideman anywhere near their team?
Add that with Wideman's contract terms.. moving him is next to impossible. Adding him to any trade convo seems silly IMO.
