Yes they should scare people. That is a regime that would have no issues going out in a blaze of glory. That glory being the destruction of Seoul. I don't believe Junior is the only one that is nuts in the North Korean elite. He's just the nut in charge right now but a host of whack jobs can do some big damage.
It gets even more dangerous if Trump and company actually start closing down bases in the area (S. Korea, Japan) like he proposed during his campaign.

I admit I don't quite understand what the letter has to do with some African americans not liking certain other african americans meeting with the trump people.
From what I read, it's not just rich celebs meeting with the trump people, it's just that the famous people are the ones getting mentioned in the news.
|
Making change from within the power structure is impossible when you aren't part of the power structure, which is why Trump isn't meeting with blacks from within the power structure like John Lewis and is instead meeting with the base level, almost satirically, a comedian, a rapper and a football player.
Guys like John Lewis can wait, Trump has some prominent members of the black community, like Steve Harvey, to talk to.

Well, don't forget his campaign message. It was solid.
Quote:
“Look at how much African-American communities are suffering from Democratic control. To those I say the following: What do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump?” the Republican nominee for president asked during an afternoon rally in Dimondale, Michigan.
“You’re living in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?” Trump asked.

He may have speaking directly to Harvey, Kanye, and Ray Lewis

sure they did exist at one point but we shouldnt use them within our groups if others can't. Blacks shouldn't use the N-word either if others aren't.

Maybe you should tell them about it.
I think, before registering this as a real complaint, you need to look at the way those words are used within groups vs the way they're commonly used outside of those groups.
I think that language originally meant to define and degrade a particular "type" of person is at it's best when it's adopted and re-appropriated by the very people it was meant to define and degrade.
Sorry you're sad you can't use the N-word too. People who aren't black really sort of just ruined it for ourselves. Maybe we'll be more careful next time, but lets not go telling people they cant use a word that was used on them (negatively) for years and years.
"Ok, sorry for using that word. As an apology we'll stop using it, but since we made it up you can't use it either. It's still our word."
That's not the way it works.

I thought Trump being a disaster was a given.

That's an interesting point. I never thought of it that way. For example there are many derogatory terms used against Asians. But Asians don't use those terms with each other. So that's the point of view I come from.

I'm not particularly thrilled with the cause, but the ongoing criticism of Trump needs some balance. So to make things more interesting around here, I'm going to start defending Trump and promoting the good he might do.
To start:
Trump calling out NATO was long overdue. This ancient, even pre-cold war alliance has lost its path to the point it needs to be examined for purpose and goals. Trump calling it obsolete will lead to a long overdue discussion of NATO's purpose and goals, and will in the long run promote the safety of the democratic member countries. Trump is demonstrating his shrewd nature by challenging the status quo which will lead to better security arising from a new more modern alliance.

Paradoxically, closing bases in S. Korea and Japan might actually hasten the collapse of North Korea. The only thing holding that government up is China, whose only real concern is maintaining a buffer between themselves and US land forces.
Were the United States to completely withdraw from South Korea it could encourage China to cease supporting the Kim regime, which would bring rapid change.
The problem is, of course, what form that regime change takes and I think it would take a devastatingly violent form - which of course means the United States can't withdraw from South Korea - rendering the entire question moot.
Or at least it should render the question moot, but with Trump in the Oval Office who the hell knows what the US is going to do?
I'll tell you, living in Taiwan, Trump scares the goddamn hell out of me. The man is genuinely putting my life in danger.

It might sound like the Simpsons, but Betsy DeVos says guns might need to be in schools because grizzly bears might get the kids (in Wyoming anyway). She might be even less qualified than Ben Carson which is obviously saying something. Good thing she donated over $200 million to the GOP over the years, that I guess makes her qualified.

There are very few grizzly bears in the Lower 48. About 1,500. Almost all of them are in Montana and Wyoming.
The California flag has a grizzly on it, but one hasn't been seen there since 1924.

She also does not know the difference between growth and proficiency when it comes to education. Yup, the leader of America's education department does not know what basic terms related to education mean. Make America Dumber than #### is definitely the GOP dream scenario.

Wouldn't schools be better served to have doors rather than guns to deal with grizzly bears? Just a completely asinine and insensitive comment, especially when backed up with something as inconsequential of a statement such as I feel bad for people who are impacted by violence.
I understand that the role of the confirmation hearings is to ask tough questions - but the responses to these questions lead me shaking my head as the overall ineptitude.

I understand your frustrations but I don't see Congress doing anything to help with this. Classic partisan issue.
