There are huge amounts of the wealthy elite out there in America that have been stacking government for decades that are likely pulling out all the stops to position trump towards an impeachment.
I imagine most of the elites that couldn't stand Trump really can't stand him now.
For every John Galt wannabe out there, there are true elites who understand the delicate balance between the theatre of democracy and the way the sausage is actually made. The most important thing for these interests is consistency and preserving the status quo. Race riots, international trade disruptions, the loss of faith in the the carefully orchestrated theatre etc. are all things that have the capacity to upset the establishment.
At some point this amount of distrust in public institutions will go from being helpful to elect corrupt officials to a breakdown of the civil order that gives these elites their power in the first place.
Like in a totalitarian dictatorship, eventually the other power brokers begin to wonder if they are next. The only thing worse than a bought and paid for politician is a loose cannon. Eventually the other generals in the junta see some of their own hauled off to the black cells and start to wonder if/when they will be next. There are individuals within the establishment that have far too much to lose if Trump's eye becomes fixed on them.

You don't think that would have played well in Michigan and Ohio?

Just like the entire election, it's a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

I was originally planning to avoid the inauguration coverage like the plague, but now I'm thinking I might tune in just to see how crazy things get with the protesting, etc..
Also, I'm curious to see if people can actually keep a straight face while Trump is being sworn in.

Sadly this would play well with his base. They aren't exactly critical thinkers. Just tell me what makes me think things will be OK.

I admit I don't quite understand what the letter has to do with some African americans not liking certain other african americans meeting with the trump people.
From what I read, it's not just rich celebs meeting with the trump people, it's just that the famous people are the ones getting mentioned in the news.

I'd be shocked if trump made it a full year before being impeached.
Even if he tries to be normal, the man can't help himself, and will do something stupid and both sides will go after him.
you're right about the power brokers not being happy with this.
I still think trump started his run as a joke and it went way to far, so he just went with it. at his age he probably doesn't give a crap and is along for the ride.

It's from a famous quote that's usually (incorrectly) attributed to Otto von Bismarck. Something to the effect of "Laws are like sausages. It is better not to see them being made."

So now that Chelsea Manning has been commuted, does Assange make good on his extradition condition?
Maybe the plan all along was that Assange would take out Hillary if Trump agreed to pardon him once extradited! Also obligatory mention of Putin.
