Keep waiting for Monahan and Bennett to wake up. Backlund outplaying both every single game.

But pretty good period from the good guys!

Solid period. Talbot has had some nice saves, but Elliott has been solid as well.

I'm usually not one to complain about the announcers but I cringe every time Cassie says something...

He's an odd one to get a handle on, for sure. Some games he looks good others he looks brutal. If it is truly a confidence issue then I wouldn't mind keeping him around for cheap as a bottom pairing guy, especially considering the rest of the bottom half of the D corps is gone this year.

Also wouldn't be opposed to trading him and re-signing Engelland for another year though. Either way, definitely not concerned about whether or not he gets lost to expansion

He seems to have taken a big step back this season.

It seems like the Oilers' attack lives and dies off McDavid in this game. He is the only one I have seen able to punch through the defence effectively. Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle were dancing through early but have vanished as the hitting intensified. Same goes with Draisatl to some degree who seemed afraid to take hits at the Flames' blue line.

The Flames were able to generate chances on forecheck pressure as well as on the rush. Brodie has done well to gain open ice and the 4th line is chipping in. Given an infinite amount of time (and a little more finish by Monahan's line who seemed to whiff fairly often)...the Flames should take over.

Happens when you go from playing with a puck mover on the third pair (Nakladal) to either playing 2nd pair responsibilities (w Hamilton) or having to be the good player on the pair (w Engelland)

He's still a good #6. But that's all he is.

Just one other note: My only real concern with Monahan has been in the offensive zone he really just goes thru the motions of a forecheck rather than really getting in there to win the puck.

One thing I can't stand about HNIC broadcasts is that they constantly give a history lesson of every player on the ice.

"My Home arena" has to be the worst short segment ever

This is why I play Rainbow Six during intermissions

Is that your excuse? I love Backlund, but our centre position has been a big problem this year, lets not pretend otherwise.
