Brian Hedger @BrianHedger
If they keep the roster as is until the deadline, #Blackhawks could add a player with as much as a $5.3m cap hit for the final 40 days etc
Brian Hedger @BrianHedger
I'm told the #Blackhawks are checking into impact forwards via trade & have checked in w/ #leafs re: van Riemsdyk & #Avs re: Landeskog
Brian Hedger @BrianHedger
Must be noted: nothing imminent re: #Blackhawks trades ... just some nuggets I heard today from a source, preliminary talks etc.

I don't think Laughton is a legitimate top 6 forward, but he's a guy who can play with top 6 forwards. Not sure if he's better option than Chiasson right now in the line-up, but he would be better long term.
A line of Tkachuk-Bennett-Laughton would be a pain to play against.
He could put up 20-20 in a good year who is also a heart and soul guy.
What are the Flyers even looking for?
I'd trade anyone of Shinkaruk, Klimchuk or Poirier for him. Not sure if that's enough though. Laughton has the better pedigree. Not sure if I'd do Jankowski though, as Janko is a big skilled centreman.

Man would Landeskog look good in Chicago.
I don't think he's as over-rated as some people say he is.
He would fit very well on the Hawks roster.

Reason the Flyers are looking to dump Laughton is that he is expansion draft eligible, waiver eligible next season, and he was a former "houshold name" prospect thanks to the WJC and 1st round pedigree.
Flyers trying to get something for him now instead of losing him for nothing in a few months time. Probably can have him for a Colborne tpye trade (i.e. mid round pick or a prospect swap)

Sick of the Blackhawks always finding a way to finding the pot of gold player wise every year.

Sounds Markus Granlund-esque.
Too bad he doesn't have a more successful brother, maybe Dim Jim would be interested.

The Granlund-Shinkaruk trade is looking good for the Canucks.
Both Granlund and Baertschi would be second in goals for the Flames as both have 11 on the year.

No, they would have zero goals. They wouldn't have made the team. Well, maybe Granlund, but he'd be a fill-in player.

Yeah, not a big fan of player X would be this or that on another team. Playing with different line mates, different role, different system. No guarantee of anything.

Goals ain't everything.
This flames team would be so terribly undersized with both Granlund AND Baertshi in the lineup.
Sven and Granlund might have 11 goals apiece but the team goal differential is -18. The Flames may not have a ton of high end goal scoring but they can play a variety of different styles of play and have a goal differential of -4, so the goal scoring aspect is not necessarily as important as the goal preventing side.
Look at the Kings for example, who are ahead of the canucks despite scoring less goals. They may have scored 3 less goals than the Canucks but they've allowed 22 fewer goals.
The Canucks obviously have huge holes on their backend, but Granlund and Baertschi are going to do a lot less for you in the defensive sphere than a guy like Chiasson, Brouwer or Backlund (players who occupy the spots in the lineup where Granlund and Baertschi would like slot in).

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
My understanding on Blackhawks right now is that they're not talking to teams about anything big. Subject to change, as always, but (con't)
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Feeling with Hawks brass is that young forwards in organization and their continued improvement could be like internal trade adds (con't)
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Hawks also want to keep top draft picks this year as they are excited to host the June event.
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Again, subject to change, injuries or play of team may dictate a more aggressive plan closer to March 1, but that's current Hawks plan now

That is the same logic Sutter used when he said we have eleven 20+ goal scorers. Doesn't work that way.

I suppose Maroon would have 17 goals playing for the Yotes right?

Such a shallow way to look at it...
Baertschi gets 15 minutes a night of ice-time, the same as Bennett, and more than Tkachuk. Would Baertschi be getting more ice-time than Tkachuk if he were on the Flames?
Granlund is getting the same ice-time as Backlund. Nuff said.
Give any decent player ice-time and they will get some points. Neither of these guys would be getting a regular shift on the Flames.

Agreed. Flames aren't missing Granlund at all, still doesn't mean it wasn't a good trade for the Nucks. Granlund is the more valuable asset of the two right now (meaning between him and Hunter). Would Granlund get a regular shift on the Flames this year, despite his goal totals, I'm not sure he would. He was expendable because we have others who can do what he does better than him.
Baertschi I'm less convinced couldn't be helping this team (and many of you may remember I'm not a fan of Baertschi and his handling of things when he was here). But he still doesn't look like a complete player, and I'm still not convinced he'd make this team in the roll he'd need to play here, but it's a question mark for me. We do need to remember, he wanted out because he wasn't willing to do the things it was going to take to make this team. Would he be playing as well if he'd stayed? Did he need to the change of scenery to get over the victim mentality he had? Not sure he ever would have if he'd stayed, and still not sure he's got the make up we want around our club anyway.

I think we all knew the Baertschi trade was awful. But Burke and Bob didn't like him, and his confidence was non-existent. It was obvious that he wasn't going to succeed in Calgary. It's just too bad Calgary couldn't get more for him. Baertschi is a great guy (kinda Backlund-esque in terms of community work), and I glad to see him do well.
As for the Granlund trade, I liked it when it happened. Granlund is getting playing time, but I'm not sure if he's actually helping the Canucks succeed. I haven't been overly impressed by Shinkaruk, both in the NHL and AHL.
If the Blackhawks acquire someone like Landeskog, one word: lookout.

Not to mention it gave us the assets to acquire Dougie Hamilton...

The Sven trade had nothing to do with Hamilton. The picks were the Flames own 2nd and the 2nd acquired from the Glencross trade.
I don't think the Flames lost those trades but I thought l the deals are working out pretty good for Vancouver

Teams starting to call on Burrows. Could see a team like Chicago interested.
Teams have started calling Vancouver Canucks GM Jim Benning about Alex Burrows, who turns 36 in April. Probably Western Conference teams, who know what the set-to-be unrestricted free agent winger can bring to the table
