Landeskog is very overrated. The Pens don't need him.

Agreed. Below is from Jan 7

Count the Penguins as a team interested in Landeskog
Pens have zero cap room though. Only D I could see Avs interested in for Landy is Maatta. (Excluding Letang presumably). Don't see it workin

Maata is right age whereas muzzin is older. Maybe duchesne instead? Or avs have teams bidding each other up. Lombardi and Rutherford aren't afraid to make splashes. Hopefully one steps up and awakes the dormant market.

The Avs could also take a contract like Kunitz's back as well to make it work. With Fleury likely being gone after this season Landeskog's contract wouldn't be an issue.

Muzzin is a much better Dman than Maataa.
I have a feeling that the kings moving Muzzin would hurt them way more than help them. That would leave them with a pretty thin D-corp past Doughty.

Yeah I agree that Muzzin's importance is underrated.

If the avs want a top4 nhl dman in any return I think they'll have to wait till the offseason. I can't see a playoff team will to mess with their core defense mid season.

I think Expansion should play into this as well. From what I have seen, they must protect Johnson and Beuchemin. Barrie is a no-brainer. Assuming they get a non-exempt Dman back, they would need to go 4-4-1, which may not be ideal (although I haven't really looked at what forwards they need to keep).

I think that'd be fine for them.
Who do they need to protect up front as-is? Mackinnon, Landeskog, Duchene...and...? Grigorenko?
...seriously, their roster is bloody awful. This shouldn't be a soft reboot, it should be a rebuild. Keep Mackinnon, trade everything else of value for futures and high quality prospects. The Avs are nowhere near being a good team.
This team went from having a promising group of Duchene, Mackinnon, Landeskog, O'Reilly and Stastny to absolute rubbish by losing Stastny for nothing and making an awful O'Reilly trade.
They also ruin relationships with players by refusing to pay them on their 2nd contract. O'Reilly, Duchene and Stastny all had their relationships strained/ruined by a terrible team policy, that they luckily didn't try and force upon Mackinnon - and the Barrie extension didn't go smoothly either.

I was at the Buffalo/Tampa game last night and thought Kane was their best player, along with Ristolainen. I know it's just one game (haven't seen much of the Sabres this year) and I have a lot of issues personally with his off-ice stuff, but it's tempting (especially if a low acquisition cost) to think about his on-ice talent as a Flames player. Not only was he noticeably talented, but that edge to his game is intriguing if properly channelled.

What's overrated about him? Young, hard nosed north-south player with hard shot and leadership qualities?

Neither team has much cap space, so it is tough to see how an Avs/Pens deal works. I don't think Landeskog is overrated, but I don't see why the Pens want to add yet another F, when their D isn't as deep.

I get a sense the leaves fans like the same qualities in their players as oiler fans.

Friedman mentioned this morning that the Flyers are shopping Laughton. His stock has fallen, but he's still only 22. Worth a move to shore up the Flames' forward depth?

I like him as a player. Depends on price but I would certainly take a hard look.
