Tkachuk: “I didn’t know that was going to be a penalty. But he’s a good player, so maybe I should have taken his stick (as a souvenir).”

I could understand that if Mony and Chase were always his linemates. Problem is he's played on different lines and has yet to find a line he really gells with.

No one is talking about gio. I have no idea why you are even talking about him.

On the breakaway, Gio had no awareness and no coverage on Brodeker . As the weak side D with 10 Seconds to go...that was his only responsibility.

I don't get the disagreement. Tkachuk gave away the pick in the offensive zone on a PP. Bad play.
Gio letting Boedker get behind him for a potential breakaway when the only possible way for SJ to tie the game was to look for a Hail Mary breakaway? Gio doesn't get a pass for that IMO. He needs to cover that play at all costs, leaving a 4 on 3 in the offensive zone.

Johnson was solid. And the Backlund and Stajan line came up big.

Yes, he is wrong. The Flames are still a work in progress with a lot of young players still learning how to play a disciplined game of strong puck support in the best league in the world. Against possession monsters like the Sharks, of course they are going to still look like a less dominant team, but I thought they were fine tonight—not great, but certainly not bad.
The bottom line is that they look VASTLY improved on last season, and there have been numerous times this season in which the Flames appear to be on the cusp of joining the NHL's top teams. It's not a finished product yet, but it is definitely coming, and I for one am very pleased with how the team has improved as a group this season.

Do some people still believe it's preposterous that Elliott is considered the backup? Johnson strong again and will be the single biggest factor in determining if Flames make the playoffs.
He is earning a bigger contract as time goes on.

I like how midway through the 3rd there was that shift where both Mattys (and Hathaway) almost scored.

Johnson just about has me convinced. I still think we see some good games from Elliott down the stretch.

It really has nothing to do with Giordano and his mistake, it is all on Tkachuk for giving the puck to San Jose when no one on the flames expected it to happen.
|
Agreed he probably shouldn't try and "eat the puck" with that much time left, but you seemingly only bringing up his minor gaff 200 feet from his own net on a play that resulted in a breakaway on the power play when our captain was caught sleeping is very odd.
That play is 100000000% on Giordano and for a guy who is wearing the captaincy letter on his jersey, it's happening way to ofter this year and he should know better. He has been mediocre at best on most nights and needs to wake up.
Otherwise HUGE win and the refs were horrible.

Dude they really always are his line mates besides when came back from injury and got paired with Bennett and tore it up. Which is what I want the lines to be.

Haven't watched the PVRd game yet but very happy with the result. Chucky is such a beaut.
But also geez, way to make the Backlund line carry the offensive load again...

"I got lucky and made the saves." Chad Johnson on his penalty shot & breakaway stops on Mikkel Boedker.
