I'm not judging anyone's list (except Scorpion's dumb list) but just curious why people keep Iggy off their list.

This was a guy who could do it all. Universally respected and loved around the league. A legendary and loyal player who commanded respect, and if he didn't get it, he would beat it out of you. A leader, a scorer, a tough guy, a sweetheart. A guy who played hard hockey, and yet is defying the rules of longevity. He's done it all.

He's on my list. My only explanation for this is posters who've been fans for 5 years or less. Despite not having a ring, he's got to be the most highly regarded Flame outside of Calgary, and he has the most individual and international accomplishments. Multiple gold medals, the Pearson award (which I bet is the most respected award among players). The only Flame I can think of who an opponent ever called the best player in the league to his face.

I am interested in people's reasons for keeping Iginla off their list. A first ballot hall of famer who played all his best years here. Not sure you can say that about another player. I understand this is a favorite player list, not best player, but still interested in reasons why?

Not only did I love the way he played but he was super nice to my young son a few times and he still talks about it.

Come on guys, how can you have room for one of the best power forwards the NHL has ever seen in Iginla when you've got to make space for Jason "played 3 games" Jaffray??

Real fans fall in love with horrible players who were irrelevant to both the Flames and the NHL.

Odie Cleghorn was my personal favourite of all time. Viewing his stats was a treat to watch.

Pre-Flames I actually was a Habs fan (rare in Alberta). Most others liked Boston, or later, the Isles. But I loved me some Lafleur, Gainey, Cournouyer, Savard, Robinson, Lapointe, Houle, Lemaire, Risebrough, Jarvis, Dryden, Shutt, Richard (H.), both Mahovlichs, and the best mucker ever, Lambert.

1) Kipper will always be number one on my list. He was by far the best goalie that the team has ever had and stole so many games for us.
2) Iginla. Great player, great person. He was the face of the franchise and the foundation upon which we built the team for a long time.

4) Johnny Gaudreau
5) Martin Gelinas

Based on my age, I was young enough to remember the 88-89 team but not very well. I really started to cheer for the team in 1991 which led to so much disappointment.

The way management went out of its way to surround him with his buddies, and the country-club atmosphere that resulted. And then when he balked at the last minute when he was being traded and shortened his list to two teams. Iginla was great at his peak, but I wasn't sad to see him go.

Iggy was without a doubt, one of the best players ever to wear the Flaming C. But that be default doesn't mean he was "my" favorite or even top 5.

Different people are draw to different players for different reasons.

I don't know if the country club atmosphere (which is debatable in and of itself) can be attributed to Iggy. Isn't he renowned as one of the most dedicated in fit athletes in the NHL year in and year out? I don't think hard work was ever something Iggy shied away from.

The Trade falls on the shoulders of the GM, not the player IMO.

Certainly that is all true. But Iggy was more than just the best player for the Flames. I feel like he had so many different qualities to endear him to so many different fans. That's why I'm surprised he's not on everyone's list. A leader, a fighter, a motivator, a hard worker, a scorer, and the list goes on. Truly a special player. Kent Nilsson may have actually been the best player to play for the Flames, but lacked in so many other areas.

If I was to make a top 10 list instead of a top 5 list, Iginla would be there, at #7.

This is all so subjective, though. Guys like Jason Jaffray and Nigel Dawes aren't anywhere near this list, because while they're great guys and I enjoyed watching them in other leagues, they weren't fantastic Flames.

I've always cheered a little more for the guys who really had to fight to make the NHL and be recognized. Iginla was a first round pick, #11 overall, and he was everybody's favourite player while he was here. But I always like to recognize those guys who aren't everybody's favourite player. So while it may be dumb to you, it's just how I think.
