I didn't mean it in the sense that Elliott is Hiller bad. It's just for whatever reason, the team decides to not show up when he's in net and he's left hung out to dry.
Same way that McBackup wasn't that bad. The team just always laid a stinker at his feet every game.
Hopefully that changes tonight. IMO it's mostly the team that's made Elliott look bad this season.

The team also laid a stinker last night in front of Johnson. I don't think they have a preference for one goalie over the other when it comes to their poor play.

Agreed. They play the same poor defensive game regardless. Just one goalie has been better at handling it.

I"m looking to see if Jankowski's 'effortless' type of hockey translates to the speed of the NHL or whether we see him have to adopt another gear.
The way he plays is probably my favourite aspect of him as a prospect so far.

I did a little bit of analysis on this on HF and I'll post some more for you to see:
stats don't include the game last night since I did this on saturday
Elliot 2016-17 at 5v5 12 GP
12.39 low danger shots/60 min
8.34 medium danger shots/60 min
7.94 high danger shots/60 min (4th Highest/60 among starting goalies in the league, almost Oilers bad)
Johnson 2016-17 at 5v5 11GP
12.85 low danger shots/60 min
8.44 medium danger shots/60 min
5.95 high danger shots/60 min (10th lowest in the league)
The Flames have defended much better in front of Johnson and he has rewarded them with strong performances.
The numbers get even more skewed when you just look at game in November (excluding yesterday again)
Elliot Nov 2016 at 5v5 5 GP
13.80 ldsa/60
7.41 mdsa/60
6.90 hdsa/60 (a little worse than league average if extrapolated all year)
Johnson Nov 2016 at 5v5 8 GP
13.02 ldsa/60
8.68 mdsa/60
4.66 hdsa/60 (2nd best in the league if extrapolated)
Johnson has been very good in November but the Flames defense had been making him look good as well.
This defense is capable of playing good shutdown hockey.

I'm halfway hoping the Flames lose tonight just so that doesn't become a necessary GDT ritual

Very true. Elliott hasn't been Hiller bad but he has been guilty of giving up a softie or two every game much like Hiller/Ramo. Many of these goals have come early in the game (first few shots) and this is what puts the team on their back foot and sets the tone for the rest of the game.

Was down to the wire, but with Jankowski starting this game, that means Jordan Schmaltz is the last player from that 2012 1st round to suit up for an NHL game (assuming he does).

Brian Elliot needs to take this opportunity to show his quality.

If we're counting on the guy playing his first game to be the saviour we're in more trouble than I thought.
