At least when you get fired over skype, you're already home.

This happened somewhere else not too long ago...I cant exactly remember where...somewhere north...and cold, and no good.
It went well as I recall.

Timing is poor in my mind.
Let the game end, debrief happen with the coach, and overnight to prepare.
The optics of a post game fire are atrocious. Implication is that coach is dead man walking and the decision is based on game outcome, which indicates unstable management.
Shame. Shame. (Can't be bothered to find GOT shame walk link)

I would have though Capuano would have been the 1st to go...I wouldn't have had Gallant in my "dead pool"

There had to have been issues behind the scenes. I don't think many would have been surprised if the Panthers would have regressed this season but this seems like the definition of knee jerk.

Yeah, I am thinking there is a backstory in there. This doesn't seem like a planned firing, but rather a heat of the moment kind of thing.
Too bad Gallant wasn't available during the off-season.

Results haven't been there this year, but they've been in every single game. Just haven't scored enough or at the right times.
This new GM is putting his stamp on the team that Tallon built, and he's kinda ruining it already. Lots of unnecessary off-season moves with the roster, and then fires a coach early in a season with a revamped roster and some key injuries. Don't like this Rowe guy at all.

LOL, that's never been under my control, but sure.
I still really like the team, but this GM is driving me crazy right now. The reaction around the league has suggested I'm not the only one thinking this is a bad move.

In all honesty Gallant should have probably saw this coming.
When the AHL coach gets promoted to GM above the NHL head coach, it is not a good sign in terms of the NHL coach's job security.

I wonder if this move is related at all to Florida's recent fancy stats push. Florida was the most prime regression candidate from last season (not as obvious as 2014 avs or 2015 flames), so the management must want to go after a coach who plays more of a possession game. You couldn't fire Gallant after what he did last season, so you do it now before he turns it around.

Sounds like a Gallant for Gulutzan swap is in order.

Can we just hire him to replace Cameron for special teams? Or even just PP?

nobody followed up on this? I'd like to know how 1. Gallant's dismissal makes Barkov or Ekblad available and 2. what "name their price" actually means in terms of return.
cmon, it was a tough Sunday and I still feel hungover. I could use a good chuckle.

Grass is greener type thing?
Sean Monahan has 5 goals and 8 points this year and everyone wants him to sit, some are extreme and want him moved. The things I've seen typed about him here are so extreme it's bordering on lunacy.
Up until a couple weeks ago Barkov had 2 goals and 8 points in 18 games, including an 8 game pointless streak. He's gotten better recently with 6 points in his last five, but still sits on just 2 goals this year. Florida was patient with and he's turning it around, maybe our own players deserve the same?

Firing that night, immediately following a game is so strange. It would be unusual for junior hockey let alone the top professional league in the world.
Even if you have come to the decision you're going to go in a different direction and let the guy go, you do it the next day so you can be organized about it.

The way it was done screams classless.
However, anytime a new GM comes in, the current coach is usually replaced in short order. Happens almost every time at least. As soon as the team starts 'disappointing', that is the GM's window to make that change.

Ouch.
Barkov is absolutely an upgrade short and long term on Monahan though regardless of how their seasons have gone so far. I don't think you'll find many people (outside CP) to disagree with that.

I agree, Barkov is more of a complete package. It's not like they aren't in the same ball park, but I would take Barkov if given the choice.
I wonder if Barkov's slow start is part of the reason Gallant was let go.
