Except Kulikov can move the puck, probably more so than Demers. He was just more mistake prone than Demers. It was one move that I didn't totally despise.

Oh. I saw the stats and assumed he couldn't since he had only one goal last year lol.

Gallant waiting for cab to take him away from PNC arena after being fired:
Apparently he was left to fend for himself after the panthers let him go.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Florida ownership taking a beating privately around the hockey community. Gallant is a highly respected and well liked hockey man.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Not that it ultimately matters in terms of decision, but safe to say FLA players largely disappointed/unhappy at Gallant being fired.
maybe he can coach our special teams

Holy crap, Brad pounce on this and find a way to get Barkov here. Florida can name their price.
I wonder if this move is related at all to Florida's recent fancy stats push. Florida was the most prime regression candidate from last season (not as obvious as 2014 avs or 2015 flames), so the management must want to go after a coach who plays more of a possession game. You couldn't fire Gallant after what he did last season, so you do it now before he turns it around.

At least a Hurricanes employee was nice enough to help Gerard Gallant with his bags as he got into a taxi after being fired. (AP Photo)

So the GM is taking over the coaching? Really? I feel for Panther fans, what a gong show.

It's one thing to let go of a guy who's had some success and is facing a rough stretch so far this early into the season..
But the fact that the GM had to drop Gallant like a radioactive potato right after the game doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence or positive optics.

The clumsiness of this move suggests to me it was a spur of the moment emotional decision. I'm guessing it was not thought out entirely. From the outside it looks like an "oh ya, well you're fired" type of situation.

Panthers have scored 3 more powerplay goals than the flames this season.

That's my take as well.
Almost like GG was catching some grief behind the scenes and told his GM to stop screwing up the roster, and the GM flipped his lid.

Tom Rowe has a round about Flames connection. He coach the Lowell Lock Monsters when the Flames and Hurricanes shared the AHL affiliate.
He coached, among others, Giordano in his first year pro
