Hoping Tkachuk can play RW so he and JG can play together. He has the requisite smarts, should be a good fit and sure as hell won't be standing around doing nothing while his line mate gets slashed 20 times a game.

Holding call on Tkachuk leading to 2-1 Flyers goal for those that want to see an example of the officiating tonight.
It's so obvious the refs already hate him and he will get a lot of calls go against him which is complete BS.
And my hate for Burrows is very high but when a grown man cries because of the reffing you know they target certain players. Burrows for years had so many BS balls go against him and I think Flame fans are about to experience that with now Tkachuk will be called from now on. It is total unprofessional BS.
I think perhaps the refs should reserve more player bias for that jumping spider donning #97, as opposed to guys like Wideman. What an embarrassment of a highly skilled player.
1. Completely agree that Tkachuk could be the captain one day. I love the way he plays. Flames need a lot more of that.
2. Monahan has been horrible this year. Like really bad. I disagree with the suggestions to scratch him. There's nothing more he could learn from watching in the press box. He's going to have to play through it. He needs a goal big time, and not a flukey one, a laser top shelf. Something to get his confidence going.
3. I like Chad Johnson. I would have pulled him, he was hung out to dry.
Dennis Wideman needs to be scratched for the rest of the year. Not only is he costing us with his play but I think it has become pretty clear the officials are punishing the team as well.
Wideman needs to play as much as possible. This is the only way Treliving might have a chance of trading him for a 2nd pick at the deadline.

Johnson was solid again tonight. The Gio deflection and the picked off pass were simply unfortunate. Though maybe needs to be more wary about coming out to play the puck.

Every time he is on, the Flames are essentially on the PK.
He loses every race for the puck;
He loses every one on one battle for the puck;
He has no idea how to tie a guy up in front of the net;
He has virtually zero lateral movement while defending;
and the refs have it in for him and the team when he plays.
And I don't even blame him for the odd stupid giveaway because, well, every other defenseman on this team seems to be prone to that too.
I almost feel like teams are just trolling Treliving now: "yeah sure, I'll consider Wideman, why don't you play him more so we can evaluate". Any one who watches the Flames regularly, knows that Wideman cannot defend in this league anymore, and he's barely providing any offense. He is done. You have to feel bad for his defense partners. They are constantly trying to cover up his mistakes and inability to defend or move the puck out.

Johnson played very solid and needs no unsolicited advice tonight.
Enough goals tonight were unstoppable to shun comment from even proponents of the sv% stat, who have claimed to watch hockey here for the past decade.

Haha nice
I so hate wailing, moaning and tear stained posts about officiating... but will absolutely have to allow it if this is an example of what Flames are getting from stripes.
Ridiculous
The bias that the refs use to call penalties should be analyzed by the league. It seems like they call more penalties based on reputation, embellishment, momentum and crowd noise than actual infractions. It's actually pretty embarrassing for the league and they really need to look into it.
Also I can't believe GG doesn't lose his #### after some of these calls. Not saying that he should, but I know I would be. Hartley would have been going bananas. I do feel like he should be flagging the ref to come explain the calls because this is getting ridiculous and he just stands there staring at the tv screen on the ground.

I hate Greg Millen. Haaaaate. But he was right last night. Johnson needs to make sure he gets that puck up high when he comes out to ring it around the boards.
I didn't see the game but the most telling thing for me was this quote in the game report on NHL.com
"I was very disappointed with our guys after the first," Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. "I let them know that and it didn't get any better in the second."
So he reads them the riot act after a terrible first period but they don't improve in the second, have they tuned this guy out already, given up or what??? I am sure someone will accuse me of reading too much into this statement but to me that is the only way that you can read it.
Please just sit Wideman for the rest of the season... who cares about trade value at this point.
Gio - Hamilton
Jokipakka - Brodie
Kulak - Engelland

No team is taking on Wideman. No matter how good he plays.
It's clear that the refs are looking away when infractions happen to him, but more importantly the Refs are clearly bias against the Flames.
If a team brings Wideman on, whether true or not, they can't afford the risk of being punished by the refs because Wideman is on your team especially during a playoff run.
I honestly would not be surprised if this is Wideman's last season in the NHL.

You know it's a phantom call when the players on both teams look up and look around wondering why there was a whistle.
If only this was an isolated event last night, but not even close.
The cross-check to Giordano in front, while killing a penalty for a cross-check call on Engelland was as bad as any.
After that phantom call to Tkachuk, there were two incidents in the next 5 minutes of Flyers doing the exact same thing (arm around the other guy) except substantially worse. One was Simmonds - he wrapped his arm around someone's head and pulled him off the puck.
I hate complaining about reffing too, but it has been a theme all year - a penalty at one end, but not the other.
It gets more and more frustrating every night.
That was the 2nd game on this road trip alone where the penalty calls were 6 to 1. Shockingly, they lost both those games.
