Can't imagine the team is rushing to re-sign him at this point anyways.

i really hoped he would be the short term (2-3 years) answer in goal but it hasnt worked out that way. How did Johnson play tonight, 5 goals isnt good but was he left on his own?

The Elliott situation is such a self fulfilling prophecy. Team has no confidence in Elliott, Eliott has no confidence in himself, repeat. He was crushed by the 5th game of the season and this cyclical defeatism is still going.

Didn't stand on his head but certainly wasn't the reason they lost and he never has been....can't say the same for Elliott

Tkachuk literally showed more emotion in one crease incident than Monahan has shown in the entire season.

He should be wearing the letter.

i have never liked that Monahan has always been, i wouldnt say soft but certainly not physical. when he scored, it wasnt a big deal but he is that player that when he isnt on the scoreboard, he is virtually useless. If Matthew T doesnt score, he is still running around making a difference

Yeah it's pretty surprising that the team looks non-elite with Gaudreau out, Monahan playing at about 40%, and Wideman playing significant minutes.

And good, cause I'm not sure the team wishes to re-sign Elliott unless he can prove himself capable of playing like a starter while not behind a top-3 defensive corps.

That taking down of Wideman was pretty epic, on a 2 on 1 to boot. Hilarious

I would agree with GG. Worst performance of the season. At least in the other bad losses there were at least a few bright spots. Tonight? Johnson was solid, Hamilton was good, and Tkachuk made some nifty plays, but didn't really drive offense. Pretty poor performance for everyone tonight. I wouldn't blame this one on the coach at all. The defensive system has been working for the past few games and the team has looked as good as it has since last year's big win streak. No need for hasty moves, though if Barkov or Ekblad becomes available in Florida, they should be acquired.

Looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully, a better effort. The Isles are actual crap and the Flames should beat them if they can bring the same level of play they did today, and we'll see Jankowski finally which will be fun.

The reffing was absolute trash. I'm getting sick of it as a fan. I don't watch hockey games to see refs dictate what should be a black and white rule book.

Apart from that, Tkachuk is now my favourite active Flame, and is already up there with Theo and Iggy as my all-time favourite Flames. He is what this team should be about, and definitely who I'd want to see take the "C" after Gio is done with it.

Reffing tonight was a huge eyebrow raiser to say the least. No Flyers penalties until midway through the 3rd. A questionable call during which the Philly pbp team thought the Flyers should have received a penalty which was instead a phantom call on the Flames, where Tkachuk scooped a puck out of the corner where another Flyer was and got called for 'holding' despite his gloves not touching a player, leading to the go ahead Flyers goal in the second.. Simmonds walking away scottfree despite mucking it up as much as the kid Tkachuk..

Trash.

That said, the effort wasn't even close tonight.

People are reading far too much into those performances. You won't win a lot of hockey games having to be perfect defensively and having lights out performances from your goalie every game. The Flames grinded out a few wins with good efforts but I'm not in the slightest convinced that they were some indication of a lot of future success. Until GG gets the offense and special teams going the only way this team will win is with close to perfect defensive and goaltending performances. I think tonight is more indicative of the norm than some of the recent wins.

Holding call on Tkachuk leading to 2-1 Flyers goal for those that want to see an example of the officiating tonight.

Very fair, but the Flames have done an excellent job in November of limiting high quality shots against Johnson, at only 4.66/60 mins at 5v5. That would be second in the league over the full season, behind only Minny. There have been far fewer blind passes up the middle and terrible defensive breakdowns lately and it's refreshing to see a team that can actually control a game defensively instead of needing to outscore their defensive mistakes. Johnson has been good, no doubt, but the Flames made life very easy for him outside of tonight so far this month.

I'd like to see a bit more offense, but if this team could be as tight defensively as they were for most of this trip while still being Hartley-Flames-good offensively they'd be running away with the league.

I thought this call was going to be on the crosscheck (which would have been weak) but noooo. Refs were uncharacteristically bad tonight.

Brutal team effort from most of the team. Liked Dougies game as well as Tkachuk and Bennett. Obviously Johnson was pretty solid despite the 5 goals allowed. He needs to stop playing the puck though. Really noticed his lack of skill with the puck the last few games when he leaves the crease. Needs to just stay in his net. Too many close calls the last few games and that 3rd goal just cannot happen.

Kulak is really struggling lately. He's heading in the wrong direction the last week or so. Time for him to take a seat for a few and let Jokipakka get into a few games. Hamilton had a few great chances, but couldn't bury them. I think we see Jankowski tomorrow night instead of Hamilton. Can't wait for Wideman to be gone. Whether he gets traded or the season ends. I just hate his game most nights. Expect more from Brouwer like a few people have said tonight. He just wasn't nearly involved like you expect. He needs to be getting in the dirty areas and he just isn't doing that.

Get the win tomorrow and it's still a pretty good road trip. Big game from Elliot I hope and hopefully Jankowski makes his debut.
