If this were McDavid, the media would be calling for blood right now, and special rules would be implemented immediately by the league to protect their savior.
Meh, everyone saw it happening. Not just last game, but games before that. No one on the team stood up or did anything. Engelland had a stage fight with Stewart and that was about it.
Team toughness is a thing, and this team doesn't have it. Sucks for Johnny.

NHL officials have never been held accountable for their actions, and an injury to a Calgary Flame isn't going to change that.
so the latter
I'm not saying they're going to be held accountable, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're told to look for it more moving forward. Can't have their star players missing significant time.
Oh well. It's looking like a lost season anyway so maybe a good time to see what some of the young guys in Abbottsford can do. Hopefully a young player can take opportunity an run with it.
I don't think any players in Abbotsford will help us
If this was a one off, where the refs were just incompetent It would be maddening. But that's it.
But this has been going on for years. From my memory, it started against LA in the playoff clinching game. Its infuriating. Its asinine. Somebody had better be saying something to the league.
Defeatist silver lining? What if we were right in the thick of the playoff race?
The Minnesota Wild are in town December 2nd. I wish we still had Grossman so we could tell him to run Staal as hard as he can. The bigger the suspension, the better.
Not proud of that feeling. This is why I don't mentor today's youth. But whatever.
I would love to see someone like Hathaway coming in and breaking someones hand with a slash. Or spearing someone in the junk.
Maybe its me being angry but this is too much to take.
If this is the officals being angry about the Wideman incident then there needs to be firings today.
As it stands I'm betting that people just are going to stop showing up at Flames games, I mean whats the best way to punish the NHL when one of the best players in the game is systematically attacked by other teams. don't bother going.

Absolutely agree. This is more a problem with the Flames than the refs. They can't catch everything. But the Flames could have sent a message that it's not acceptable.
Now our team is known to be a bunch of pansies not willing to stick up for our star players. It's pretty pathetic. That may be the one thing that has me really not liking this team right now is that they are a bunch of pussies.

Need some video evidence for sure, we all know its been happening all season and some on the board have said that he's gesturing too often to the refs getting a bad name for himself. However I think this is the final straw, the liberties taken out on him every game has to stop and if the ref's wont do anything about it (which they clearly haven't thus far 16 games into the season) then someone has to step up and defend him ourselves.

Yeah sure they can't catch everything, except the fact that he ALWAYS gets slashed when he has the puck so it's not hard to miss.
Team toughness and intimidation are still a huge part of hockey. Besides Engelland, the team is sorely lacking these qualities.
Someone should have stepped up when it was obvious what was happening. Johnny himself should have chopped a guy in the leg full force one of those times.
Like I mentioned in the game thread, it's time for Burke and Treliving do something, get some clips together and send to the league. Hundreds of different examples shouldn't be hard to make an extensive highlight reel. Totally unacceptable.
Yes, I guess that's true but really the team should be stepping up and making it clear that this won't be tolerated on the ice. The refs should not be missing these calls but they are and you can't just let it go. When Suter hacked him last night someone should have throttled him. The fact that no one really seemed willing to do something spoke volumes about the team to me.

December 2nd should be guaranteed loss night. Time for some fines and suspensions.
The guy I want to see do something is Monahan. I think he's bigger than he realizes. Drop the gloves and pound someone for once. That's your best friend, isn't it? Stick up for him.
