Well, at least the Sportsnet highlights showed Johnny getting slashed a few times. TSN didn't mention it at all.

What a joke. This is on the league, but I've noticed all season long the Flames have been unwilling to come protect Johnny when necessary. That part is on the players. Having a coach who never says anything to the refs doesn't help.

I know this will probably be controversial, but the easy fix for this is for the league to suspend whoever is responsible for the slash.

I know it's not as blatant or as ugly as a blindside hit to the head, but if you commit an illegal play, and someone gets hurt, you should get suspended. And since we've got 1000 camera angles now at every game, the league could get these guys, regardless of whether a penalty was called on the ice.

I think it's s simple fix.

Gaudreau says that Suter and Staal were the guilty parties. Id be happy seeing both get theirs.

Ugghhh I really hope this is something the team can rally around and step up. At the very least it should open their eyes to the fact they need to protect their star players. Although I'm not sure why that hasn't been the message all along.

What's the timeline for surgery? Probably a minimum 6-8 weeks?

#### this league

Time to break someone's jaw. Seriously.

If the ref's won't protect the players then its up to the players to send a message.

John Shannon says surgery will be required

John Shannon @JSportsnet
Johnny Gaudreau. Broken finger. Will require surgery. Flames' season just getting worse.

Half glass full outlook...perhaps this is what it'll take for refs to start calling these slashes?

I wonder why they didn't slash him a few more times just for good measure. Probably would have got away with that too.

Whoever ended up breaking his finger should face retrospective action and get suspended. Will never happen but it should.

Is definitely time for Burke to step to the podium and bellow.
Does not help now, unfortunately.

Safe to say that if he actually requires surgery and misses any significant time, the season is essentially over. Our offence has been struggling WITH Gaudreau in the lineup. Imagine how bad it'll be without him. Ugh... I hate this season so much.

Absolute BS by the NHL and the continued incompetence of their player safety department and their on ice officials.

If its actually a broken finger and surgery is required he's probably out for 4-6 weeks.

Nice going NHL, Nice going Minnesota, that was a deliberate strategy on their hands.

I've said that the NHL when they decided to go with the softer side of sears approach to hockey it was going to lead to a rise of cheap shot idiots or agitators and this little passive aggressive bs.

Congrats NHL you put a marketable star player in harms way, and you overloaded the deck with continually incompetent and inconsistent officials.

Personally, I wish the Flames would call a press conference to congratulate the NHL player safety department for a job well done.

No really guys you are the height of competence. I'm so glad that the Peter Principle applies to the NHL

This thing is so stupid. Its not like this was an accident, all I've seen this year is slashes to the hand when Johnny gets the puck or is in a position to get the puck.

Personally, if I was the Flames in the next game, I wouldn't dress a single star. I'd dress every idiot that I can find that can skate and I'd put them on the ice, and if the NHL complained I'd simply say "You guys do such an outstanding job with player safety that we don't feel its worthwhile to put our stars on the ice."

Just dumb.

Way to go NHL, I've gone from apathy for the Flames to trying to figure out if the NHL is even worth my time anymore.

I would ask the fans in attendance tonight to be extremely vocal to the officials. Let them know.
