The more I think about this the more excited I am getting.
We may be getting KXL after all.
I hopeful that he follows through and blows up the Paris agreement.
If him and Ryan reduce the CIT from 35% to 15%, it should force Canada to do the same.
Trudeau may even be forced to cancel the carbon tax.

Hah, okay, whatever, but you realize you're going to keep losing? I mean, there's no way this should have happened. People are find the social justice left so completely awful with its preaching and identity politics that they were willing to elect a deplorable lunatic who doesn't know anything about anything, and your reaction is, "let's try even more preaching and identity politics"?
I know, I know, it's an oversimplification. Lots of factors are at play here. Nor should people stop standing up against discrimination and bigotry. But there are ways to do that. Given what just happened, is it too much to ask to look in the mirror and see if there's a better way to approach these problems that doesn't give ammunition to an authoritarian Biff Tannen impersonator?
Honestly, I get Vlad's reaction to the reactions in here. If not for who the guy is and the danger I think he represents to... er, almost everyone on Earth, I'd also be enjoying the utterly absurd reactions from people like Calgaryblood. It just makes me want to laugh, throw my hands in the air, and say "welp, I guess we're doomed to do this dance forever, then."

Sounds to me like he wants to continue giving local police military equipment.

He's gonna be another W. So good for all those things, but there of course will be an economic calamity at the end of it. So short term gain for longer term pain more than likely.

Don't worry, if he pulls out of NAFTA none of that will benefit us anyway.

I suspect pulling out of NAFTA really means re-negotiating certain provisions of NAFTA. Maybe he'll even change the name. I doubt his Congress would let him simply not have a free trade agreement with Canada. Too many districts would be utterly ruined by it.

I met a guy from Albuquerque a few years ago who came to Calgary on business, and he told me when we were out downtown that he had never seen an Asian person in real life, only on TV and in the movies, until this trip.
Lack of exposure and lack of negative stereotypes makes Asians a non-factor to the average American.
|
The notion that these things are strictly a matter of external stereotypes is dumbfounding. The biggest differences between the outcomes of Asian Americans and African Americans are:
- Asians are far more likely to grow up in intact homes with a mother and father.
- Asians are far more likely to finish school and go on to post-secondary education.
While there are historical forces that have hurt black families and educational aspirations, there are internal cultural problems as well. While it's idiotic to pretend wider societal forces don't shape people's lives, it's also idiotic to pretend only wider societal forces shape people's lives. There are limits to what the state can do to encourage black men to take responsibility for their children, or encourage black families to put a premium on education.

Also, reading all the discussion above - many of those from the less-stable, less-wealthy (3rd/2nd world) Asian countries often experience all the same low-education, drug, gang problems, broken homes etc. that other races and immigrants and refugees experience. It's a huge disservice to the majority to assume all asians are rich engineers from China or wealthy English language students sent by their parents from Seoul.

I'd be surprised if he did anything with trade at all. Maybe not do TPP, but even then it's something the GOP strongly backs (including his VP). I seriously doubt the party of free trade is gonna watch their President tear up trade deals.

EDIT: Also re-reading this post, that's pretty ####ing racist dude. The "no-father" narrative isn't even true and it's pretty sad to see you perpetuate it here.

What are your thoughts on what might happen to the electric car industry? I haven't heard anything of what he would do, but given his pro-oil, ant-climate change stance, I would imagine he might try to eliminate subsidies. Without those, electric vehicles are a lot less attractive to consumers. Gas may also get cheaper with his polices. Could this be really bad for the electric car industry?

The moderators try to take a lot of care and can spend weeks or months discussing a decision to try and make sure it isn't just a case of not liking someone's opinions.
So this is incredibly insulting.
I don't mind taking time to give people the benefit of the doubt when maybe they go too far in giving their opinions. Or not being respectful enough of their fellow posters. We don't mind giving more time to better confirm that what we see is actually what we think we see.
Where I have no desire to give tolerance is insulting the moderators or the forum. Especially not from someone who knows better behaviour. Why should I choose to subject the other moderators to that?

How is the market irrational? People are buying all the stocks they believe will preform really well under Trump, makes perfect sense.

If everyone reduces CIT its a net loss. The demonstrated advantages of low CIT usually are based on cannibalization of other jurisdictions. Especially if PIT or Capital gains or dividend taxes are not raised to balance the loss of income from CIT.
If the proposal was decrease CIT but increase dividend taxes thus forcing money to be reinvested I'd agree its a good thing.

Well, fair enough, I have no idea why he was banned. He insulted a moderator? Okay, if that's worthy of banning according to the standards of the forum, I can understand that. It is a little frustrating to see people who make far less valuable and interesting contributions persist in doing so while he's removed, because good discussion isn't served by everyone saying the same things in different ways. But that's just my perspective; I don't run the place. And I'll retract the statement with apologies before I get myself into trouble.

But based on what? Nobody knows what the heck he's going to do, other than likely tearing up or reforming trade agreements. He's the biggest injection of uncertainty into the market that one can imagine - usually an indicator investors will move their assets to safer plays. This looks a bit more like disaster capitalism speculation to me, all without any solid foundation.
But hey, it's not like stock markets have ever been highly rational anyway. I'm just surprised we haven't seen much more movement. But there are still about 2 months for the landscape to shift.
