Really, really like those defensive pairings, run with those for a few games and see what happens.

Say what you want about Gulutzan but he is making better adjustments in 11 games than Hartley did all last year on the way to a bottom 5 finish.

Now if our first line could only get going.

Good win.

Ferland is really coming along nicely - whomever said that he is what he is was dead wrong - he is still very much a developing player.

Underrated Engelland stood out this game.

Tkachuk was the hero.

Johnson was solid.

Frolik and Backlund were... hmm... Frolik and Backlund of every single other game. Dependable, efficient and almost dominant. Put anyone with those two, and they excel.

Defence was definitely much better tonight. Nice to be able to win these close games. Awesome to kill a 5 on 3. At least the PK seems decent.

PP - man on man, fix this thing. Launch Cameron into the eye in the sky, and bring down Gelinas. Please. Flames had one of the NHL's top PP units after the first month last year. Gelinas must be smirking being the eye in the sky every time the PP fails to produce.

Gaudreau and Monahan - well, they aren't a total waste. For some reason, they are still drawing the better defenders. That helps the rest of the team score. Other than that, nothing really positive to say. I don't see improvement. I am still going with the assumption that Monahan's back is not ok, but Gaudreau is still playing terribly out there. And no, it is NOT Chiasson's fault. In fact, Chiasson seems like the most capable player on that line more often than not. The great thing is that the Flames are 3rd in the Pacific even though their PP sucks, and their top line is non-existent. Fix those two things, and this team will be so good.

Huge shout-out for the Flames' 4th line. I too want to see Ferland promoted, but man that 4th line is so good exactly how it is.

I am worried that Bennett is working his way into Gulutzan's doghouse. Hopefully not.

He also has better goaltending so far. Johnson had a huge game tonight.

Well I disagree. As terrible as Monahan and Gaudreau have been (and they have been terrible), Chiasson is utterly useless. Plays die on his stick right down to the board play that's doomed to fail before it even begins.. I don't want to separate Ferland-Bennett-Brouwer or Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik, but those two absolutely need someone on their line who can spark them and open things up for them instead of making them grip their sticks more. I would propose trying Poirier on that line.

Got the #### kicked out of us for 15 minutes as the Sharks pressed and tied. Then Tkachuk completely undressed Jones for the GWG and San Jose just deflated.

Tkachuk more than delivered tonight. His hard work over the last 9 games has paid off. Can't help but cheer for him at his age and trajectory. Not too mention Bennett with a great play and Ferland with the feed for the first goal. I have no doubt in Tcachuk's abilities.

Ferland is the underdog Flame I cheer for. He has so much talent and he's so on the edge. He makes a difference many times.

Backlund was a fighter tonight and just kept pressing and battling when things were muddled. Another difference maker.

Johnson was solid in net.

Gio and Brodie are an amazing pair. probably their best game all season. Nice to see this action.

Monahan may still have some health issues he is battling through. First line was still a little disjointed but they will get going. Johnny tried to make magic but other players weren't able to keep up.

Can't wait for Saturday night!

Monahan has to be hurt still. That's the only thing I can think of. I'd love to see Gaudreau get off that line for a bit. I feel like he's starting to come around but is being held back a bit.

Had to watch the Sharks feed tonight, and the Sharks play-by-play guys praised the refs several times, how they really had a fantastic game going on and so on. Even after that weird review of the obvious no goal. We saw things differently obviously.

So Engelland had 2 points and was a +3....and some don't see what he brings to this team. He's been great all season long. Most consistent solid defenceman on the season.

That was the least noticeable I've seen Gaudreau. He didn't stand out at all. I find that more than a little concerning.
