Ovechkin wouldn't have scored playing with those two tonight.
Hot garbage.

That terrible call on Bennett was the difference in the game...brutal. Oh, and Gio... he looks terrible, bone-head plays galore. The top players need to get their act together and it starts with the highest paid guys.

He's my favourite player...but he's just doesn't look confident and at times he's either too gassed to give a second effort or he's simply gives up. I'm not sure which one it is, but I think it's likely the former.
Monahan has not been good either, but he needs JG to be JG for him to be successful offensively...and it just hasn't happened. Frustrating to watch.

Agree. They played great for most of the game. But nothing to show for it. If Johnny can find his game the team is in fine shape. Tough stretch of games coming up. That's two in a row against good teams where we played well but came up short.

Wideman sucks, Gio sucks, Mony Sucks. I'd trade all three if I could. $18 million worth of garbage.

But I thought Brodie was way better tonight. I thought Gaudreau looked better. Monahan had a good game on the defensive side of the puck. Backlund and Frolik were good, Bennett had a strong game.
I know they were singing Tkachuk's praises but I thought he had a couple moments when he made the wrong choice and the puck went the other way (without consequence).

You thought Brodie was way better tonight?

Could not have been more evident tonight that Gio and Brodie need to play together. They try to do too much to cover for their lesser partner which only brings them down.
Johny and Mony can be split up with ease...there is nothing there worth holding onto right now.
Gio needs a serious gut check moment if he is going to lead the flames out of this mess. Too many mistakes from a lapse of judgement and that shot at the end was a cherry on top.
Engelland should not be playing next game after that god awful pinch, not picking up his guy on the PK and playing Kane on the 2 on 1 like he had never played hockey before. All 3 ended up in the back of our net.
I am patient with a new head coach but if Cameron is in charge of special teams, he can be sent his walking papers anytime. It is absolutely painful and embarrassing to watch all aspects of our special teams.

I don't think the Flames were short handed when Elliott was pulled. He was pulled that early because they needed two goals, not one. And if the Flames didn't have the zone, they got it right away. They had decent control too. It was Gio's missed shot that was everything.

clean house, gulutzan, gelinas, all of them. Hire a real coach that the players will actually respect.

Brodie needs to move back to the right side because he has been absolutely terrible.
Got danced by Kane leading to the first goal, and was completely unable to stop Mott getting to the net on the clincher.
IMO he's been our worst player so far this year and I'm not sure how close it is.

I'm calling it right now. If the Flames can end the Honda Center curse on Sunday, they'll make the playoffs.

I'm not going to blame the refs for the loss, but that was pretty bad officiating. Those non-tripping calls on Gaudreau can't happen, especially when you call that trip on Kane. I'm getting tired of this league and it's inconsistent reffing.

So which was it?

The Flames were holding their own until that dumb Bennett penalty and then the flood gates opened. I was watching the Hawks feed and they were praising the Flames all game for their work ethic.
Overall it was a good effort. But Gaudreau was a giveaway machine. I barely noticed Monahan. Brodie somehow let the goal scorer for that 3rd goal walk around him. Once again, no time out called at any point. Special teams stunk. Rinse and repeat.
I feel bad for Elliott. He played a solid game and gave us a chance to win.
I will say though that Panarin is a gem. What a shot he has. I know some people like to think he's just riding the Kane train to a big payday. But wow, he knows exactly where to be and gets shots off FAST.
