This thread reminds of this one that was created last season. Almost exactly to the day 1 year ago.

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...light=hamilton

Remind me how that turned out?

I'm legit excited to bump this thread when the Flames start winning games and start publicly shaming some of the posters in this thread.

Disappointment stems from expectation.

We're talking about a 22 year old d-man here. As usual, someone completely devoid of context is the one ranting and raving up a storm.

I haven't bothered to read the thread (because honestly, why would I? I know how it's going to go already), but here's my summary:

Make a trade that's lateral at best long term, and a clear downgrade short term, for a player with much less cost certainty going forward (because he doesn't have a contract, especially not a long term deal), who is currently holding another Canadian franchise ransom for playing time, or more likely, the chance to play in America. What's not to like about a deal like that?

I can't believe this thread got more than 2 responses.

Much disappoint, CP.

Maybe if the Flames were 2 points out of the race and Hamilton scored on his own net to knock the flames out your point would have any ground to stand on.

Starting the season 3-8-1 while giving up a ton of goals/horrid special teams is a failure on the team not Hamilton.

In case the joke hasnt been made (I'm not wading through this tire-fire):

"I dont think Freddie Hamilton gets you Trouba. Oh. Dougie? No."

Why not? Because it would be a bad trade.

Not sure why this trade would be feasible. Hamilton is still young and he's got size, which I hope he'll start to use to Flames' advantage. I'd say Trouba for Gio + whatever prospect would make more sense. But if Trouba wants more than Gio's contract, why bother? The one D-man who I still think the Flames should try to get from the Jets is Tyler Myers. Flames need size, grit, speed, shot (from point) on the defence. They suck at the these requirements at the moment.

I haven't read the whole thread for obvious reasons. I don't know if it has been mentioned but Hrudey never won a cup.

My expectations are very high for dougie. I hope he proves me wrong which would most likely mean the flames are succeeding on the scoreboard which is what really matters most at the end of the day. I have strong opinions, maybe i have to learn how to temper them down a little bit

A 22 year old who has been physically mature 5 years ago or even before that. Who has had 5 years to learn the mental game at the nhl level. As i said my expectations are high for dougie.

Sounds an awful lot like Kevin Lowes "So I think I know a little bit about winning". Found Kevin's CP account.

2nd time: It's the expectations.

We have a highly touted d-man we snagged last season for a song and he came in, and while took some time to adjust, went on to score 43 points as a 22 year old.

You are completely missing that context, and go ranting on about how he's somehow a "disappointment" for doing that, and begin piling on alongside someone who's belligerent enough to hang last year's failure to make the playoffs solely on one kid.

It's your expectations, and you don't need to temper them "a little". You need to temper them down a lot.

No need to substantiate your opinion with experience and longevity.

Your words speak volumes , concerning your actual knowledge.

Maybe??

MAYBE you have to learn to temper your outlandishly high expectations for a 23-year-old defenseman???

HELL YES.

Why should any of us just simply take your word for it? You made the claim. If you think you should be taken seriously then it is certainly incumbent upon you to substantiate the claim.

I will repeat: I do not believe that your report of Kelly Hrudey's comments about Dougie Hamilton from Saturday's HNIC are accurate, and I remain positively underwhelmed by your lame appeal to authority. This is a nonsensical discussion.

I don't understand why the OP got so much flack. It's not like he suggested Hamilton get traded for Griffin Reinhart. Trouba isn't chopped liver and is just as good as Dougie.

Good players get traded all the time, why does everyone take trade suggestions to heart?
