So you should know its ridiculous to say Hamilton was the sole reason the Flames missed the playoffs last year.

Monahan is what? 21 I'm not questioning him. Geaudreau? 23? I don't question him. Bennett (I think could have used another year in junior), but no I don't question him, he's what? 20? Brodie at 23 was already a very very good defenseman.
|
Tim Thomas was a Stanley Cup winner. But I'm not listening to him.
And Hrudey didn't even say what you claimed.
Brodie at 23 had huge question marks. He'd just finished the half year season with 2 goals and 12 assists, behind Gio, Jaybo, and Wideman. And that's about where he was on the depth chart. It was a pretty good year for him, but not earth shattering.
The next season he busted out with 31 points. Still less than Hamilton.

Goalies certainly fall under the microscope but I think it is easier to spot and understand who is playing well and who isn't. A stoppable goal is pretty easy to spot.
The rest of your post seems to be a reaction like I was talking about you personally in my post. I don't know how much you know about hockey or not.
My point was that most fans struggle to understand good defense and good blueliners, myself included.
I have no opinion of how knowledgeable you are.

Hamilton turned 23 in this last off season. So this is his 23 year old season. He has had 2 seasons in a row of 40+ points at age 21 and 22.
Brodie's 23 year old season was 13-14, like you say. That season he got 31 points.

You are going to argue that Hamilton's 43 pts with #5 toi on the Flames in a sheltered role is better than Brodie's 31 pts playing 24:04 #2 minutes for 81 games against the other teams best players.
Last year Brodie had the highest quality of opposition in the league as Hamilton had to be protected.

Its nice they both have their birthday in June..
20 years old
Brodie - 2010/2011 - 3 games 0 points
Hamilton - 2013/2014 - 64 games, 25 points
21 years old
Brodie - 2011/2012 - 54 games, 14 points
Hamilton - 2014/2015 - 72 games, 42 points
22 years old
Brodie - 2012/2013 - 47 games, 14 points
Hamilton - 2015/2016 - 82 games, 43 points
23 years old
Brodie - 2013/14 - 81 games, 31 points
Hamilton - 2016/2017 - ???
So 81 games and 31 points >>>>>>>>>>>> anything Hamilton has done? Come on guy..

Not at all. Did you know that only a few wins can determine whether you make the playoffs or whether you are outside of the playoffs.
A Kiprusoff can determine whether you make or don't make the playoffs.
A stud defenseman like Pronger can determine whether you make the ployoffs or finish outside the playoffs.
It also works for extremely bad players put in very strategic positions on pk or pp with high play time. This can also affect whether a team makes or doesn't make the playoffs.
Gio was -18 with Hamilton, nuff said.
This is obvious stuff guys, come on what's wrong with you? The staff that jumped on board for Hamiton trade should be re-evaluated for further employment.

Actually, Hamilton played top pairing minutes off the top (no he wasn't great but neither was his partner). Brodie was gone, remember?
And Brodie also had a whole year of playing with maybe the best 2 way defenceman in the NHL in 2013-14.
And, yeah, I do find 43 points from a 23 year old defenceman fairly impressive, especially if they are in some sort of sheltered limited minutes. That basically means he was playing with Engelland for most of the year - not a way to pick up easy points.

Hamilton may still have a ways to go. But my mind is literally blown that you think Hamilton is the sole reason we didn't make the playoffs last season. Especially comparing him to Kipper ( a goalie?) or a HOF defenceman. Putting the blame on a 22 year old defenceman. Hilarious.
This forum has been plagued lately with poster who's accounts haven't posted in years, yet all come out of the woodwork now and make all these crazy and outlandish posts.
Frankly I blame Gaudreauvertime for all of this. It's like he's had some crazy sleeper cell accounts in the waiting, and now is the time to unleash.

I told you that I appreciate defense as much as I appreciate offense. I suppose at the end of the year you think because someone has a bunch of points that he's better than everyone below him.... wow. Was Brodie partnered with a Norris Trophy consideration type candidate at 23? You guys are getting silly. LOL Next thing you'll say is Pronger's career sucked because he was no where near Coffee's point total.

Learning a new system is a big deal. If you don't play sports maybe you wouldn't know, but you should still be able to comprehend that it has massive implications.
The 23 skaters on the rink right now are taking a split-second to think before making a play, skating with the puck, taking it up ice, etc. Nothing is second nature to them right now and muscle memory takes about 6 weeks to kick in according to the professionals.
This isn't some myth.

Maybe a great goalie can get you in the POs. And certainly Pronger got a few teams in. But a single player hardly ever makes you miss. And even if one player can make that difference there is no way that Hamilton was the guy. The goaltending was horrendous. In fact, in the first few weeks only Gaudreau and maybe Jones played with any consistency.

Please bring up where Gio was -18 with Hamilton,
This is his game log from last season.
http://insider.espn.com/nhl/player/g.../mark-giordano
Like I said he went -5 in the October stint last season, Brodie was back on October 28th. So most likely November he was re-paired up with TJ.

Hamilton had a career year last year and is leading in shots taken this year. He could easily have 3 goals right now with some of the bullet's he has layed out on the power play.
Sweeney is seen as a terrible GM across the league and part of the reason is because of this trade.

Ok a 1st round pick and 2 second round picks have zero worth then. You need to give your head a shake, dougie has played horrible so far this season as has most of the flames aside from a handful. Yeah well guess what he hasnt had any goals. Its almost as if you havent watched a single flames game this year
