You weren't watching the beginning of the season last year then, or weren't paying attention. It was only with Hamilton's improvement that the Flames actually started to play better towards the end of last year. Fans were calling in actually asking the team to lose for a better pick. It wasn't that Ramo was so much better, it was mostly Hamilton was getting better. Yes, if a player is a top pairing at the beginning of the season with Gio, they can have that kind of impact you say can't be done by one player. I completely disagree.

Are you suggesting Calgary is a less desirable location than Winnipeg? Both as an organization and as a city Calgary is much more desirable to players.

Everyone just yells stupid thread if it involves trading a guy. Lets just stay stagnant and never look to improve the team. This is all speculation. We over value our own players so much its crazy

Not saying Trouba is a mediocre prospect or anything but his offensive numbers are underwhelming and defensively he's not bad but not a shutdown defenseman. To me Hamilton has considerably higher upside and at 23 has already put up two seasons of 40+ points to which Trouba may never do in his career.

Go ahead and think goaltending was the major problem. This team sent Ramo to the minors, and he was by far our best goalie. I also think Ramo is as good or better than Elliott or Johnston. Johnston I think has a bigger upside than all of them.
It's possible Johnston isn't as good as Ramo, but who is he?

Default Hamilton for Trouba trade. Why not?

God, NO. Just no.

The improvement also coincided with the return from injury of the Flames best defenseman after missing the first month, and the rounding into form of their second-best defenseman.

Just stop it. Positive comparisons between Dougie Hamilton and Justin Schultz, and the claim that Karri Rämo is a better goalie than both Elliott and Johnson are not just wrong, they are unconscionably wrong.

Over the last 2 seasons, only one D 23 or younger in the NHL has more points.

John Klingberg.

Vancouver 5–1 Calgary
Calgary 3–2 Vancouver
St. Louis 4–3 Calgary
Calgary 1–3 Winnipeg
Edmonton 5–2 Calgary
Washington 6–2 Calgary
Detroit 2–3 Calgary
Calgary 1–4 NY Rangers
Calgary 0–4 NY Islanders
Calgary 4–5 Ottawa
Montreal 6–2 Calgary
Calgary 5–4 Edmonton

So you're saying Hamilton was the reason the Flames gave up a ton of goals went 3-8-1 in October.

Gio, who was paired with him, was something like a -18 or -20, once Brodie was back with Gio he was being considered to be part of the Canada team. Russel who was partnered with Hamilton to make up for his defensive liabilities is now considered an anchor in this young season up in Edmonton. There is improvement in Hamilton defense, but a very mild improvement which was all that was needed towards the end of last year. With Trouba, I am extremely confident we would have made the playoffs last year.

I still consider us lucky to have Hamilton on this team, and I'm very happy that Treliving pulled the trigger on that trade. It bottles my mind that there are so many suggestions to ship him out of town already.

If you honestly think that then you are pretty delusional.

Hamilton was not the Flames biggest problem last year. Hamilton was not the only reason they missed the playoffs.

Calgary is currently 27th in goals against. Maybe it wasn't all on the goalies?

The team is in the midst of learning a new system. Honestly people get it through your thick skulls.

When Hamilton was learning a new system last season he played like garbage. Now our entire team is learning a new system and our entire team is underperforming with the exception of 2-3 guys who were already possession beasts before learning this new system.

How else can it be spelled out for you guys...

I'm not buying the system excuse for the defense.

Learning a new system doesn't make you make terrible passes to the opposing team, bobble the puck, lose it in your feet or over skate it like a bunch of amateurs, which exactly how Giordano, Brodie and Hamilton have been playing.

Again, I don't think you know more than Kelly Hrudey (who supports my opinion) a former Stanley Cup winning goaltender who covered almost every game last year. It is you who is delusional thinking that a passive defenseman in a top pairing could affect the outcome of a tight playoff race. Completely delusional.

I would trade Hamilton for Trouba but only because I really hate his game. He's the new Jay Bouwmeester who has my most hated Flames of all time.

However: Unless Flames management thinks Hamilton has hit a wall or won't develop, why trade for a guy who is sitting out for a guy who is in our system and knows the players, etc.

I certainly wouldn't add to the trade either.
