He could immediately get the whips out, lash a player (non-core player of course ) and set the tone early in the season.

I don't understand your last statement. But if you're saying that it is against the CBA like I think you are, then you're right!
The play better attitude is precisely the attitude that players fought to get rid of in the CBA. They said, 'we are humans, we want 4 days scheduled in advance for us to help with our families and get other things done. We don't want this to be subject to change by a moany coach the night before."
They literally gave up millions of dollars in order to get that one thing. Do you know who didn't give up a penny? Mcdcvid and McLennan. And god forbid Talbot would have been planning to have 2 days off the week of his wife's c section. He was probably going to take that day off anyway? Yeeeeesh

The CBA also allows for changing the day off. If all the players agreed to change it then what is the problem?

Did all the players really agree to it. Or did a minority only agree because they didn't want to be seen as a bad teammate?

Oh, I think someone's hand was pretty far up Connor's ass to make his lips move and some of the rest of the players just agreed to it for exactly the reason you stated.
The vets on that team are probably thinking to themselves:
"Son...this is the Edmonton Oilers, 6-2 blowout isnt time to push the panic button, thats just another day at the office around here."

No one will know. But I imagine if the PA doesn't file a grievance than I assume no one had an issue with it.

The fact they're investigating probably means its not as unanimous as you think it is. Maybe you're banking on everyone having no plans and being delighted to come in the next day. Or maybe there's a complaint. If there is, that dressing room is sunk. 3 games into Mcdavid's captaincy. Maybe Pouliot didn't feel like being called stupid and made a complaint to his player rep? It's playing with fire, and even though it is what fans think the team deserves, there could be year lasting consequences to this type of thing. Dumb.

Because it sets precedent. No one wants to appear to be a bad teammate, so it puts unnecessary pressure on the players to say yes.
And for what purpose? Are the oilers really one practice away from foxing what the problems were last night? No.
Not really fair for the 19 year old captain with no family commitments to say yes for the team

This is actually why I think there will be outside pressure by The PA. No one wants this to become the norm. They will want to demonstrate that there's a consequence for this. Would not want to be the players rep for the Oilers as not filing a grievance will not be met well. Puts him in a bad position IMO.

Seriously wtf is wrong with this team everything they do is just the opposite of what should be done. It is baffling, does anyone in that organization have a voice inside their head that says "hey man stop and think this over for just one second ". What an embarrassment.

What I don't understand is why 3 games in they're making such a huge stink out of one bad game.
They basically created drama out of nothing.
Give the players their day off, and push them harder when they come back.

Especially this early in the season. If this backfires psychologically, it could have a long-lasting impact on the morale of the team.

I was watching TSN Drive radio on tsn2 today and they asked the question...
If McDavid was 30 and had been Captain for 11 years instead of 19 and captain for 3 games, would the Oilers be practicing today or getting their day off?
If the NHLPA is looking into it, you have to believe that it wasn't a unanimous choice to exchange the off day. Seriously though, are the oilers going to do this after every loss when they don't play "well"?

Sets a terrible precedent this early into the season.
Anyone who has ever played sports or lived life knows that you have 'bad' days. You get over it and move on, hopefully improving next time.

A "bad day"? Sunday looks to me like just another game for the Oilers.

Off days are sched for a reason. So fam can prepare to spend time together. Rescheduling doesn't allow for this. Give an 1" will take a mile
Saw this retweeted by Drew Doughty. Looks like players around the league are taking notice.
