At this point I would not rule out Republicans firebombing themselves, either to gather sympathy or crazy Trump supporters wanting to hit the "treacherous" establishment GOP.

Or maybe it was the Russians. Not much else would make this crazier.

I think this article pretty much answers all of Illuminaughty's questions about Clinton, and does a pretty good job of summing up why I like her and why I think she'll make a good president.

But, of course, the LA Times aren't a credible source (despite running the only poll which has shown a consistent Trump lead).

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed...nap-story.html

Quote:
Take a deep dive into the more than 10,000 Clinton campaign emails published by WikiLeaks, and here’s what you’ll learn: Hillary Clinton is a careful, methodical, tightly-controlled politician. Her jokes, her tweets and even her purported ad libs are often scripted by aides. She hates to apologize, even when she admits she’s done something wrong, like keeping emails on a home server. She’s a progressive, but not an ideologue; she yearns for “rational, moderate voices” on both sides. Above all, she’s a pragmatist who’s willing to compromise — and to have “both a public and a private position” if that’s what it takes to make a deal.
...
What’s most remarkable about this megaleak is that it’s yielded no real smoking gun. Even the most newsworthy quotes from her closed-door speeches to Wall Street firms often aren’t as damning in context as they may seem at first.
...
Trump and his lieutenants have complained that the news media — sorry, the “corrupt news media” — haven’t reported enough about the Clinton leaks.

Actually, newspapers and television networks have put hundreds of reporters to work combing through her campaign’s emails, searching desperately for bombshells.

None of those purportedly Clinton-loving organizations has hesitated to publish documents that were obtained illegally, by hacking, and whose release was clearly intended to sway the election in Trump’s direction. Our natural instinct is to publish first and worry about the implications later.
...
If U.S. intelligence officials conclude, as they say they believe, that those emails were hacked by someone working for the Russian government, that’s no small thing. It means Vladimir Putin or his aides have deliberately intervened in a U.S. presidential election.

Should Clinton win, we’ll be on a frigid Cold War footing from the start. In the increasingly unlikely scenario that Trump wins, the consequence could be worse: Putin will believe the president of the United States owes him one.

I don't see any indication that anyone was "strangled". I don't even see any indication that the university prohibited anyone from wearing a hat. So...?

Actual question: if someone broke into Trump Tower and stole Trump's tax returns, would/could the media print the returns? The few pages that were reported a few weeks ago (seems like months ago) were sent anonymously and I seem to recall there being some question as to if that was even ok.

What's going on here? Roger Stone jut making sure he doesn't get thrown under the bus by Trump if the FBI investigation of him goes anywhere?

I saw a FB post the other day that a UofC student was attacked for wearing a Trump hat. I'm not sure if it is true or not since someone was saying he needed to be hospitalised while another post said he only required minor medical care from a paramedic.

I can understand why a segment of Americans would support Trump but have no idea why Canadian conservatives would (same with Brexit). Are they just being trolls or is it an enemy of my enemy thing?

Can someone actually post a real news article about this U Of C (not Mt Royal) Trump hat thing? The Mount Royal one was all over the news hours after it happened, yet I haven't seen sweet ####-all about this U Of C incident except on Reddit and alt-right blog sites.

In Alberta perhaps conservatives are more scared after the NDP and Liberals (TRUDEAU!) got in over the past 12 months. Or they're just racists. I hear a lot of crazy things about the office about taxes, oil and immigrants. Maybe Trump is kind of the last of the mohicans and people want to latch on to anything. It's all going against them right now.

The NYT felt they were legally secure because of an overwhelming public interest. If Trump was not a candidate, they would be in violaton of the law.

The taxes were also leaked to multpile sources, and the press is permitted to report on publicly available information (like leaked emails).

These are legally unclear answers; courts tend to defer to the freedom of speech when in doubt though, so (in my amateur opinion) it would be legal.

The leaker, however, if he was a public employee or worked with taxes in a professional capacity, would be in certain violation of the law.

I suppose conservatives are scared at the moment and are looking for anything, no matter how unpalatable, to stop the tide of liberalism. I also think it is a bit of a I don't like liberals and Trump doesn't like liberals therefore I like Trump.

Anecdotally about Trudeau, whenever people find out I am Canadian they will say one of three things:

10%: So you like maple syrup?
20%: So you like ice hockey?
70%: I am so jealous of your new amazing PM Trudeau. What a great gentleman and statesman. I wish we had leaders like him.

This causes me confusion because if I only read CP and FB posts I would think Trudeau is the worst thing to ever happen to Canada.

One could only assume that the main stream media in Calgary is suppressing this story to protect Shrillary.

It's on his facebook. It happened friday. A metro reporter has asked him to speak with him. It's a pretty detailed account of what happened. Does not strike me as made up.

So as many of you already know I've been wearing a Trump campaign hat around campus. I've always encouraged lively debate regarding politics and I believe that students should engage in these activities in order to better understand the belief systems that define our world. However unfortunately today things went too far. Whilst walking through Mac Hall I became involved in a situation regarding the wearing of my Trump hat. This incident lead to me being physically attacked for my political beliefs. I entered the discourse with the said individual with no hostile intention nor did I honestly attempt to provoke him in any meaningful way. I was left shocked because I could have never foreseen the violence that would spawn from such a simple political interaction. All details aside this resulted in the attack mentioned above. I'm going to hold back on the specifics for now until things become more clear and calm.

Now I should clarify what I believe and why I would wear such an apparently provocative statement. I've been wearing my Trump Hat in all the interests of our best academic and social values (as well as it being good fun). Freedom of speech and the right to political assembly are integral to essence of what defines our nation and democracy. Regardless of what individuals think of Donald Trump and his campaign millions of people around the world share in his political vision for the United States. I for one can say that not everything Donald Trump has done is exactly in line with my beliefs. However I like many others agree with him on a wide range of subjects and as a politically active student I backed his nomination for the presidency almost a year ago. I only hope that despite the incident today positive political discourse can continue peacefully on campus regardless of any individual's views. The vast majority (99%) of interactions I have personally had on campus have led to extremely positive outcomes. Many times multitudes of students shared their views and beliefs in a productive and safe environment. Today was the exception but I hope that this one black mark won't stain the open political discourse on campus. In the end of the day we are all students looking to improve the future. It's time that we take a step back in pause to think about how overly heated this US presidential race has become. Regardless of the election results in the United States, Canada, or any other western nation we will all still have to wake up and live with each other the next day.

(Regarding my health I'd like to state that currently I'm sore but doing ok. The paramedics checked me out and despite some bruises and a headache I should feel better soon. Thanks to all my friends that have showed concern during such a strange trial. It really means a lot!)
Edit: I've seen a lot of stuff on social media about the attack being more severe then it is. While what happened was unjustified I was never hospitalized after the incident.

He's got recent profile pictures including the racist frog and Donald in what appears to be German WW2 era military dress.

Doesn't strike me as made up either - he strikes me as a neo nazi.

^ Accepting his account as true (no reason not to at this point), violence absolutely has no place in our political discourse (and society in general). Its totally abhorrent. However, I think its a bit unfair to criticize the forum for not commenting on a story that hasn't been reported anywhere except for some random facebook post.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have called out the forum. It was "reported" by Lauren Southern on twitter. Then Psycnet decided to comment on her instead of the actual story.

I'd like to be the better man and agree with you but frankly got into many punch ups with national front supporters when I was a teen, I have no problem with nazis and KKK morons getting a beating.
