Until we get fair officiating this team isn't going to succeed. The bias against Johnny is getting to the point I may just stop watching. He gets hooked and slashed almost every time he gets the puck, kind of ruins the on ice product.

It was happening last season too but now it's getting farcical. I just can't take the disappointment of watching a game that is not being fairly reffed. It ruins the fun of it.

I'm happy for Joe. Hopefully he puts up 50 points this year and really sticks it to Flames management.

Look on the brighter side, he still finished the game a - 1.

I hope he does well but in no way hope he sticks it to the flames. We didn't have room for him if we wanted to improve our goaltending situation.
At the time we needed at least 1 goalie and to sign JG and Monny. As great of a guy as Joe seemed to be he was not worth making a priority over the other off season tasks.

why would a flames fan hope this. The guy was willing to sign for less in Colorado than he was in Calgary.

sure they will

if they play 500 hockey against the rest of the league that gives them 70-75 pts in 70 games. That will involve stealing some points against the better teams. They need the 20 against the garbage teams to get to the 90-95 point level.

When they made the playoffs in 2014-15 they took 20 out of 20 pts from their games with Edmonton and Arizona. Against the rest of the league with a lot of stolen pts 77 pts in 72 games Ie if the gave away 5 pts against the garbage teams that year they finish with 92 pts and out of teh playoffs.

Flames are starved for offense when they can't cheat all game on the defensive side of things.

Desperate for any kind of offensice finish on the bottom 6.

Also i am starting to think that some posters have no clue what 3 games in 4 nights to start the season is like for a pro athlete. These guys are not even close to 100% conditioned for that yet. This is not your X-box where you can play for 10 straight hours and the players never get tired. Throw in a Vancouver team that has rested for a week and flames were lucky to get a point. In my eyes that is horrible scheduling by the NHL.

This is not 1972 when conditioning was working on the farm or in the steel mills and cutting down beer consumption and Smoking.

I think that the consensus opinion is players are in the best condition of the season on the first day of training camp and the goal for the rest of the year is to try to maintain somewhat close to that level.

Coming here after the last loss... Well, I think a bunch of you should go be Canucks fans.
Yeah, no kidding. Some of the posts after losses are pathetic. Gulatzan should be fired after 3 games? Giordano should be left exposed in the expansion draft? A 23 year old Hamilton is garbage? People declaring Elliot garbage after 2 games? People bashing Gaudreau and Monahan after slow starts when they had basically no training camp. Reminds me that I should probably avoid CP the day after losses.

I found this post on Reddit which has given me hope:

Quote:
Boys it's been 3 games under a new coach, system, and over half the roster is new. Don't forget in our playoff year under Hartley we lost almost EVERY game in December. Also, Chicago this year is only 2 points in 3 games and they will make it. Anaheim lost their first what... 10 last year? We will bounce back fast and hard and spin some heads. Believe it!

The losses are frustrating but I'm trying not to post immediately after losses anymore because it just leads to overreaction. There's 79 games to go. They won't lose them all and they won't win them all. I still think this is a playoff team, their timing is just off right now. Monahan and Gaudreau look like two guys who missed training camp. In Monahan's case he gets a pass because he was hurt, Johnny probably should have signed before camp or at least flown out here to work out and get adjusted to the time and altitude. I'm not worried. Frustrated, yes. But let's give them a few more games to get their timing back. We got a point and that's a start. I have faith they'll work through this. I also think it's ridiculous to jump on Gulutzan 3 games in. The coach can only do so much. If they're still playing like this in December then by all means start sharpening your pitch forks, but please guys, let's have some patience. Things will be fine.

I haven't seen many comments on Kulak's game in this thread.

What are everyone's thoughts? I had company over, so missed parts of the game.
I did notice 1 play that he botched and it resulted in a turnover, but he worked his bag off and actually recovered the puck back from the Nuck he turned it over to. Other than this, the kid just seemed to play a quiet, responsible game on the 3rd pairing, which is everything we could have asked for.

Kulak has to know that if he has just 1 bad game, he'll be back up to the press-box in favor of Wideman. For now though, the ball is in Kulak's court... Let's hope he doesn't give it back to Gulutzan.

Because I like the player and thought they should've retained him. Not a star but better than several other options in the current lineup.

Do you have a source for your claim that CGY had a better offer on the table? Seems unlikely considering how they were scared of arbitration, the place where Mike Hoffman (a better player) gets awarded $2m.

Kulak looks competent. Nothing flashy but he can do the job. At least he's ahead of Wideman and Grossman. He's good for a young guy, he could be the #5 D man for this team.

I've only read maybe have the posts here but saw zero mention of Bennett or his line. How were they? As much grief as the top line is getting we need Bennett's line to succeed just as much

Exactly, if fans thought they were going to come out of the gates on fire and look like a power house they need their GD heads examined. They also didn't have their two best forwards for pretty much the entire preseason.

This is pretty much the start I expected although I thought a win in the home opener. Short flashes of what they will be and periods of hot garbage as they learn systems and teammates.

The flashes will get longer and the garbage shorter over the next couple of months but they were always going to have their work cut out for them to make the playoffs this year.....they weren't going to be a lock, put it that way.

They won't, but some need to chill the heck out.

Bennett isn't anywhere near the sharp, edgy guy he was even just in preseason. He's been playing slow minded, and then gets frustrated and tries to do it all himself.

I'll take some heat here but Tkachuk doesn't deserve to stay up after his nine games. They'll give him his nine games, but he should't have them. Problem is, only Shinkaruk is about the only viable option to replace Tkachuk. LW depth with Tkachuk in London is pretty scary.

Brouwers been one of the top 3 players in every game so far. He's in mid season form and almost everyone else is trying to catch up.

Goaltending and defence were great last night, including the PK. Just need to get the offence going and I think they'll be fine. I'm not overly worried yet. That being said, Tuesday's game is an absolute must win, if only just to give them some confidence going forward.

Better learn to read a stat line, or stop making #### up. Either will do.
