Gulutzan is not looking good thus far.

Chicago
San Jose
Los Angeles
Anaheim (in Anaheim)
Dallas
New York Rangers
Minnesota
Arizona
Chicago

Only 2 easier teams in that stretch.

Things don't change soon, this season will be over by the time it hits December, just like it did a year ago.
This is the most depressing post tonight.

Tough loss. Especially when we had a HUGE game from JOHNSON.

Hopefully we can get our own version of McDavid this draft. Is there a great #1 working through the minors right now?

First line was garbage. They are a huge defensive liability. And where's Gaudreauvertime?

Is this a rebuilding year? I think a lot of people would be less unhappy if the front office stopped fibbing about where the Flames were in relation to the rest of the league. Burke's trash about playoffs was already unreliable to me, but even I didn't think they'd be this hapless. I thought 10-12. This is a 14 place team all the way.

But the PK was amazing! Time heals all wounds. Unless you get gangrene, then you gotta cut something off, hopefully it's not Johnson.

Oh and he hasn't scored since 2011.
That is just another example of Homework not done by Gulutzan.
What I find fascinating is how one man can turn a team into rubbish this quickly.

OK, I've gotta say it. I'm really beginning to question Brad Treliving's depth player management. He's consistently let go fantastic depth and role players in favour of mediocre face-punchers and grinders, and the Flames now have few options in certain situations.

For the shootout, the Flames had Joe Colborne who was essentially a failsafe in that situation. Now, who do the Flames have?

For generating quick -- if fruitless -- offensive rushes, the Flames had Paul Byron. The Flames sorely miss his fifteen breakaways a game.

For third-pairing defensive depth and an awesome 2nd PP unit option, the Flames had Jakub Nakladal. The Flames have few useful defensemen on the PP now.

For very good third-pairing options, the Flames had David Schlemko and Raphael Diaz. They kept neither of them, and have rolled through since with an abhorrent third pairing.

I can't be more thrilled with BT's trading and player development skills. However, I am less than enthused with his depth player management. I get that he has a very meticulous "process", but there are situations that you need to plan for. Right now, the Flames have few real, good options in the shootout, on the 2nd PP unit, on the third pairing, and just in generating spontaneous option in general. I feel a Flames team with just a few of these depth guys would be a far better team.

Nope. I believe they expect Patrick to be a 2nd line centre. This is a weak draft apparently (feel free to correct me if I am misremembering).

Then you watched a different game than I did. I saw a tired Flames team that were fortunate to earn a point against the Vancouver Canucks.

Think about that.

I actually like the way they are playing. I think they will turn things around soon once the first line starts clicking...providing the goal tending holds up.
