Perfect. Tkachuk is in their heads. The kid is a gamer.

PK was amazing! I mean we have the right guys for that kind of high pressure PK, that should be a bright spot for this team no matter what this year.

As for my thoughts on the PP, only the first game but it looked jittery for the most part. I missed the PP goal as I felt I had better things to do than watch the rest of 3rd.

After another season opener like this, I like to remind myself of the 2005-06 season. The Flames started the year 1-3-0, losing 6-3, 6-3, and 7-3 in the process. Kipper allowed 18 goals in under 4 games to start that season.

That was the year the Flames won the NW Division and Kipper won the Jennings and Vezina trophies.

If that was the best the Oilers could muster it is going to be a long year for them. Shoddy goaltending and a couple poor calls at crucial times sank the Flames. Even when they were down 6-3 with 5 minutes left I still couldn't turn it off because the way the Greasers were playing still made me think it could be done.

Best part of the night was when Mclean suggested McDavid was the best player in the world and Friedman looked right at him and told him it was a little early to make that proclamation.

I wonder how the extended pregame love-in played on Elliott

Gretzky and Messier did a five minute thing, and then they had warm ups and announced all the Oilers afterwards.....

The ceremony was way shorter than I thought it was going to be based on the Oilers telling fans to be in their seats so early.

Did he? It's kind of overshadowed but he let in three stinkers himself as the Wideman goal is the only one of the four that he shouldn't have stopped.

Way too many folks are a little too upset with Gulutzan. Calm down people. Game 1 of 82. Give it until like December before freaking the Fata out.

Really? I think the first goal was questionable, after that, breakaway, poor d coverage on Frolik's and as you mentioned Wideman. Faced 40 shots, much less phased by the delay if that's the hypothesis.

No reason to think that was their best. Same for us.

Friday night should fix everything.

It's OK to hate the team, but respect/recognize the fact they have probably the best player in the world on their team right now. Steamrolling the Oilers isn't going to happen every time anymore. Get used to it. It's actually a bit of a blessing we only get them 4 times this year.
Nope.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

I don't have to respect anything about the Oilers including the fact that they stumbled and bumbled their way backwards into the world's best player. He is fun as hell to watch, but that on its own isn't worth all that much in the grand scheme of things. That team up North is garbage whether or not McDavid is on the roster.

Not much to respect about the Oilers. Agreed. But landing a good player is all about luck.

Drafting Monahan was luck.
Drafting Bennett was luck.
Draftick Tkachuk was luck.
Flames are lucky no one decided to draft Gaudreau for 3 rounds.

I fully admit I might be in the minority. I really enjoy watching the Oilers lose, I hate seeing them win, but I don't get much enjoyment talking about how bad they are.

Ideally, I'd like to see the Oilers start to finish right around the 19-20 spot league wide. Just low enough to miss the playoffs but high enough not to luck into good draft picks.

Plus, after being bottom of the barrel for so long, improving to 19 might make them think they're almost there, causing them to waste cap space on overpriced UFAs.

Since when is mcdavid the best player in the world?? Did I travel forward in time or something? Guy wasn't even a stand out in the world cup. He could very well end up being the best but it really seems like people are jumping the gun on this one lol. Had a good game and some nice plays, the hype train really is working I guess.

I disagree. Monahan wasn't luck, it was good scouting. Maybe believed that better players were available.

I distinctly remember making that same reference last season after a choppy start

I don't remember it that way. But maybe you're right. But having the 6th pick was luck. I thought they were pushing hard to trade up for #1. If they had 4th pick, I bet they pick Seth Jones. What if someone picks Monahan ahead of them.

It's a lot of luck and random chance.

Yeah he stunk too. He also completely missed a long range shot by Versteeg that hit the post. Monahan just missed tucking it in after.

The Oilers took "luck" to a whole other level with McDavid.

Those pieces of crap sucked so bad they drafted 1st overall 3 straight years, so the league changed the draft odds to lessen their chance of continuing to win lottery while finishing 29th/30th in the league.

Well for once those despicable pieces of garbage didn't finish 29th/30th and ended up lucking out with the improved odds from finishing a little higher in the standings to snag a generational talent.

It's pathetic, and nothing like the Flames drafting Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk or Gaudreau.
