So after listening to 3-4 hours of it last night, I turn on the fan today and it's all McDavid and Matthews, generational blah blah blah.

#### right off.

Could be, and I prefer him to Ferland on that line, given their normal duties and their respective approaches to the game.

Ferland needs to figure out what he is.

[QUOTE=foshizzle11;5951897]I don't like how Wideman had 5 more minutes of ice time than Hamilton. I get he had a penalty and had to deal with that but Wideman was out on the ice 30 seconds longer than Gio was last night. Not a good start, really don't like that from the coaching staff.

P

just showcasing him for a trade

Agreed with the phantom "penalty shot" last night. I think it was more for the fans/new building than it was any part of rules.

Too bad they didn't just give Wideman a hooking penalty, not that it was merited, but at least the Flames could have got another SHG. Stupid Oilers

Matthews I can see...but McDavid, that penalty shot was such a farce and his other goal shouldn't have gone in

I am avoiding all social media/media today other than CP

Ferland really needs to start using his body again. He is playing like a powder puff.

The refs must have been on the Oilers payroll last night. Just as Calgary starts to come back they start awarding penalties for accidental contact and daring to stop McDavid from scoring. And Lucic is a TERRIBLE fighter. I would be shocked if anyone in the league was scared of him. ####ing drunk loser.

^ lol yeah Playfair had his moments

None with the Flames that I recall though. I remember him mostly looking either baffled or pensive.

As bad as the reffing was last night, and it was bad, I'm not sure that our brand new head coach, who is a relatively junior NHL head coach to boot, should have been starting the season off trying to show up the refs.

Might have made all of us feel better in the moment, but my guess is it wouldn't be the right long term strategy for the team and our on-going relationship with the officials.

They bought in to the McDavid hype and lost control.............it sucks, it was actually a huge contributor to the outcome last night, but no "spaz out" last night was going to change their calls, and it certainly wouldn't help us in future games.

Apparently Oiler fans are upset af about a phantom slewfoot by Tkachuk.

He's being called Matt Cooke/Raffi Torres 2.0, and apparently Canucks and Oilers fans had no interest in him at the draft.

Lol.

If JP didn't drop, I'd bet a very large portion of the Edm fan base would've been pulling for Tkachuk. We already know most of the Canucks fans were.

Both Oilers and Canucks fans wanted Tkachuk.

JP wasn't expected to be available at 4. And we all know the audible sigh of disbelief that resounded from Rogers Arena after Benning selected Juolevi.

I'm upset that we could have ruined the season opener in the new arena...and didn't.

I really think people are underestimating what an incredible player McDavid is. Yeah the Oilers pumped 6 + an EN past us, and for good reason. Sometimes the homer glasses need to come off for a second.

It's OK to hate the team, but respect/recognize the fact they have probably the best player in the world on their team right now. Steamrolling the Oilers isn't going to happen every time anymore. Get used to it. It's actually a bit of a blessing we only get them 4 times this year.
