Why? Because so much can change in six years. For all he knows, the Flames will treat him like garbage for the next 6 years and he'll be running for the door. For all he knows, the coaching and management staff will have done a complete turn over and he will have no idea how he feels about the new management until they actually exist. Maybe he meets a nice Calgary girl and they have kids and he won't want to uproot his family?

He's 23, and like all 23 year olds, he's thinking about where he's going to get dinner tonight and what's on netflix, I doubt he's even giving any thought to 6 years ahead
(things he's thinking about has been edited to fit in with a family friendly motiff)

Wouldn't Smid's cap hit be irrelevant after he goes on LTIR?

He can do pressers later.

He had the typical BT response, it's our goal but making the playoffs is hard and you have to be one of the best 8, climbing over that pile is hard

Agreed, I like how she poked her nose in there and got to ask that question. With all that's going on with captains, signings and just pure relief.. I've forgotten about Tkachuk a bit. Glad she got a bit of an update for us.
Oh and Rob Kerr looking nice and professional...

There were a few comments in here to the effect that giving Lucic an "A" (and Ference the "C" prior to that) was silly because they hadn't played a game for the Oil. I just wanted to make sure we weren't being hypocritical about anything here....

Gah, mentioning that he picked up a guy off waivers for that RW spot would have capped off a great weekend!

I think Brouwer has shown the leadership qualities that the flames are looking for.
Anyone who thinks Flames fans are being hypocrites by cheering Brouwer getting an A bit knocking the bozos up north just need to look at last years playoffs.
Brouwer was the leader in STL's run last year.

BT has stated that LTIR isn't as simple as put a guy on it and get the cap space back. He has made it clear that it's extremely complicated and is even affected by things like call-ups. So I could easily see them wanting to just move the cap hit out and not worry about a LTIR claim.

If people said that and are supportive of this move, then yes, they are being hypocritical. But there is no "collective" hypocrisy on the board.

They've said this a few times in the last week or so, once it was announced that he'd be on the roster to start the year. They haven't even committed to him playing in the season opener, and it was made pretty clear about that.
