For anyone interested, here is when all of our core players hit UFA now.
Monahan - 2024
Gio/Johnny - 2023
Dougie - 2022
Brodie (Brouwer/Frolik) - 2021
Elliott -TBD
Bennett - -TBD
I like it.

This is great news.
I was going to be mighty disappointed if Gaudreau wasn't in the line up opening night.
Pretty awesome cap hit too.
Now, as long as the goalies are as good as they've been in the past, and the coach/system aren't a complete flop, this team should be pushing hard for a playoff spot next spring.

Gio + Mony + Johnny + Dougie + Brodie = $30,275,400
If you add Elliot and Bennett next year, probably looking at around $40 million total for those 7 players.

I'm with ya. I hope there is such a thing as a Gio cap and now a Johnny cap. Or at least that it's advertised as there being one during negotiations in the future. Anything to keep our salary structure manageable.

I can't see a long lockout next time around. I have been quite pro-owner during the past couple of lockouts, but the current CBA with a 50% split of revenues (after expenses) is more than reasonable.

You forgot to add 6.75 each for Gio/Johnny.

That Brodie contract is so damn good. Bless his heart, but that guy needs a new agent.

I'm not going to worry about term for another 5 years and 6 months. Who knows I might be long dead by then.
But good enough on the term, great on the dollars. Close the book and lets move on to the season.

Ha - so excited!! And I'm supposed to be in Van on the weekend....now I have to figure out how to get tix to the game!! Hopefully without getting too hosed....
The last time I was in Van when the Flames were there was the night of "the fight(s)".

Great contract, good value. I would have preferred 8 years, but that would obviously be a considerably higher AAV. Great day to be a Flames fan.

I shudder to think what a 29 year old Brodie gets as a free agent - I'd guess we're looking at a $9M hockey player.
But since the GM is who the GM is, I'll guess 8x8.

Johnny opted to sign at Flames number rather than start missing games.
Flames wanted 7 years but comprimised to 6 years
Flames wanted a similar deal to Monhan and didn't want to go over Giordano's $6.75 mil
|
Very interesting -- I was wondering if Gross had convinced Johnny that missing the start of the regular season would be to his advantage. Not surprising that Johnny wasn't interested in that strategy -- probably gave him until today to negotiate so that he could still suit up for Game 1.
