Great deal for Calgary, Trouba needs to sign next for a reasonable price!
Quote:
Holy crap. Insanely good deal. Good job Calgary. It keeps forward salaries down for this type of player as well. 8 million was ridiculous.
Quote:
That is an absolute steal, and I really mean that.
Can you hand out GM of the Year in October?
Quote:
Very nice deal and the upcoming point totals at the end of every year will be saying the word 'steal' a lot
Quote:
he should have his agent fired. he got fleeced like a sheep
Quote:
Great deal indeed.
Quote:
His agent sucks.
Quote:
That's a good deal for Cgy. Good job by the GM
Quote:
Incredible deal. Probably the best in the NHL now.

What a great deal for Calgary.
For those about to QQ about only getting one UFA year; 6 years ago, Vancouver was the class of the league, Boston won the cup, Chicago had 1 cup and LA had none. Mike Richards was a force in the league, Timmy Thomas was a killer in net.
There's so much that'll happen in 6 years, it's insane.
Quote:
Thats a steal for Calgary... I hate that UFA´s that are declining badly and probably will not break 50 points gets almost as much as he does. Backes etc.
Great RFA´s should have more leverage when discussing contracts. Why not pay the players for the level they are at right now and not lowball them because they are young and rfa´s. I get thats the way it is and i dont know how i want it to be i just think its dumb as hell that Backes gets 6, Lucic gets 6 etc and Gaudreau gets 6,75. The guy scored almost ppg last season. RNH got 6, Eberle got 6. Gaudreau should get a good amount more than what they got imo.
Steal for Flames and Gaudreau has enough money for one and two dinners every night so its not like i feel bad for him, i just dont like they way so many ufa´s get top dollar when they arent close to the players some rfa´s are. I get why it is like it is, i just dont like it.

As a fan of a different team in the West. Boooooo
As a fan a great hockey and great hockey players. YAY!

If he was looking for 8 million this gives me hope that Murray can talk Lindholm down from his asking price.
As for Calgary that's really good value. Good for them.
Quote:
I guess Gaudreau re-signed. The guy didn't have much leverage.
Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.
Quote:
Very good deal. The flames keep getting these kind of deals done. Impressive.
Quote:
Fantastic deal for the Flames. Crap.
Quote:
That's actually very great for the Flames.
That's too bad. Was hoping for 10 million per or a trade. Which I suppose is a compliment to the player.
Quote:
Good deal for both sides. Johnny gets a bit less than he deserves, but gets to go wherever his wants for big money in 6 years.
Quote:
Deal seems good for the Flames. I was expecting $7.5
Quote:
Damn, steal of a deal. Coming from a very jealous Canucks fan
Quote:
Make that two jealous Canucks fans. Meanwhile Benning paid almost the same for Eriksson ($6 mill/6years)
Quote:
$6.75 mill per is a steal.
Can our rivals go back to making boneheaded decisions...we are being left in the dust
Quote:
Gaudreau is unreal. CGY fans are probably very happy. Only one UFA year, but hey.. sometimes it is what it is.
Quote:
I hate that Calgary has Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett all on the same team. That's a gross collection of elite young talent right there.
Quote:
god it pisses me off how good btrev is
that's a phenomenal deal
Quote:
Wow that's cheap, what a deal.
Those that spread the rumours were out of loop completely. Character decision from Gaudreau.
Quote:
Wow. Good deal. GJ on Gaudreau for coming down and being reasonable, gj on Treleving for being responsible and not signing him to a massively inflated amount.
Quote:
That's a lot of money for a 13 year old
Quote:
He can have all the Xbox games and Monster Energy he ever wanted
Quote:
That's a lotta Pokemon cards, that's for sure.
Quote:
That's a lot of skittles man
Quote:
6.75 Mill a year can buy a lot of Lego
Quote:
By the time the contract ends he'll be old enough to drink.
Quote:
Now he can afford to eat as much Nutella as he wants.

Yeah i admit it....i was wrong. I didn't believe a defenseman could set the ceiling for a forward, but apparently Treliving and Burke have decided otherwise.
It will work for another season or 2, but beyond that, and if the cap grows (which is no guarantee either) it wont be applicable.

I think they won't hesisitate to pay a player significantly more important to the team than Giordano more than Giordano makes. Bennett is the most likely to break that number in a few years.

Johnny Gaudreau's 6-year extension includes a NTC in the final year. Player specifies 5 teams to which he can be traded. #Flames

It's a negotiating position and not a hard cap. Unless someone has better information the Ecklund on Johnnys eight year number there is still little evidence that the cap exists other than a negotiating position. This deal is essentially the same as a 7yr 50 and a 8yr 60 deal. And even then the flames may have opted for a shorter window with more cap flexibility.
As soon as the flames said there was a gio cap that became the minimum number that Johnny would sign for. Using it as leverage created the settling point of the contract.

Just curious but when does Johnny have to pick those 5 teams?? Would presume it's July 1st going into the last year of the deal?
It's really not. And I never took either side of the debate on the theoretical "Gio-cap", so I have no interest in defending it either way.
A "Gio-cap" would basically mean that you could move Giordano and thus get rid of the cap. All Friedman said was that they team didn't want to exceed Giordano's $6.75 million AAV. It's the $6.75 million that is the internal cap and it's just circumstance that it is was Giordano makes. Calling it a "Gio-cap" is dishonest when what it really is is just the current internal team cap. It says nothing about next year of 5 years from now.
There was a time that some players would have it written into their contracts that they would be the highest paid player on the team and therefore there really were caps based on what one individual player makes. That is not what is happening here.

So glad this thing is over, it loomed heavy over camp and sucked any excitement out of what is traditionally the brightest and bushiest time of year. The unmitigated positivity that September brings just wasn't there.
It's interesting/funny how six years isn't seen as that long of a term anymore. When Regher signed that five year deal in the summer of 2003 it was very shocking, no one put pen to paper for that long. Summer 2016? Only six years, not committed long term but atleast we have him.
Six years is still a long time in the NHL, it's a long time to get lots done with Gaudreau in the line up. Maybe he's still homeward bound after this deal but that's fine, it's a long damn time away.
Over the moon to have him back in the line up. I still firmly believe you don't build a winner on the wings and Monahan Bennett and the defence will be our backbone, but you pay for offence and this is very much a workable deal, you can live with this and make it work as youngsters like Bennett, Tkachuk and a goalie like Elliot need new deals.
Can't wait for Wednesday. Hoping Gaudreau scores a nasty goal and skates down in the in the Oilers new building in tribute to the departed Nail Yakupov.
