Obviously the team will do better with him in the lineup but I agree, the wheels aren't gonna fall off if he misses 10 games. I have to say that this whole ordeal is beginning to negatively effect my perceptions of Johnny.

Literally nobody is saying that.
But we're a bubble playoff team with Johnny. Without him, I don't much like our chances. He drives the entire offense.

Isn't there a December 1st deadline or thereabouts for RFA players to sign or miss the season? That's about the time the lost money starts to add up to the point of never get it back.

I agree with some of this, by quite frankly no, I don't think they can be a winning team without him. There's some great pieces without him for sure, but let's be honest, even with him in the lineup that depth on the wing is pitiful. Can they go 3-0 without him? Sure, but I don't think it's too likely.

He should probably start driving his contract negotiations.

I'm pretty confident that the Flames have likely put a fair deal in front of Johnny. He wants to maximize that deal which is his right. So, if he holds out that would be his choice but I will not belive for a second that the Flames haven't put a fair and reasonable offer before him. Treliving didn't travel and meet with Mom and Dad and all to slap them in the face.

We definitely want JG in the lineup, but we should be able to beat the likes of Edmonton, Vancouver, Buffalo, and Carolina without him.

I agree and this is exactly what happened 2 years ago when the captain and one of the front runner Norris candidates went down... Others elevated their game to compensate... I prefer to be positive about the whole thing and strongly think that IF Johnny is not in the line up the 1st few games, the Bennett line will come out of the gate flying.. (No , I have no sources..just my gut feeling as these guys are pros after all)

The Flames offence is largely driven by great puck carrying / distributing defensemen. Gaudreau is also a big part of it, but to say that he is singular in the scoring success of the Flames is pure hyperbole.

By no means are we dead in the water if this drags into the season, but no need to sugar coat it. It's not good.
No Johnny is a huge blow, as Monahan will be rusty coming off injury and playing with inferior and new line-mates.
With the start we had last year and the way it had us chasing all season, getting out of the gate strong is important this year. I'm sure others will step up their game, but missing Gaudreau is going to be a huge detriment for the first few games if he is indeed out.

That IS exactly the salary he would lose, at a yearly AAV of $7.5m. What are you asking?

The Gaudreau camp, at 7.5M per, would lose $41,666.67 per day once the regular season starts (based on a 180 day season).

And his agent would lose 10-15 % of that right?
