The wait and the uncertainty is agonizing for the fans.
I think it's really important to find a way to get it done tomorrow or monday, and not at the 11th hour, for many hockey reasons (time to practice with the team) but also because if not then it makes the start of the season very stressful for fans that are being left in the dark on the whole ordeal and we deserve better than that. If it's gonna come down to the wire I really think both sides should show some transparency to the fans to stem all the concern and worrying. They don't have to divulge numbers or details, but just put out some positivity and reassurance to the people that support the team, and all those people that have #13 stitched on their jerseys at home.

What is it you want to hear?
Without divulging numbers or details, just YESTERDAY, Treliving stated this:
Quote:
“We all know that Johnny is a tremendous player,” said Treliving, addressing fans at the Calgary Flames’ Red Rally fan event on Saturday. “He’s a significant part of our team, a significant part of our community. We are moving Heaven and Earth to try and get him done. The business side of our sport is, sometimes, not the fun side and we’re going through that right now.
“I have every confidence that we are going to get a contract that works for Johnny, that works for us. Our hope, and what we’re striving for, is get that done so that not only Johnny will be back here with us, but with us on Wednesday.”
|
This is a negotiation until.........it isn't.
BT and crew are not going to negotiate through the media....thank god.
Hence why there will be no numbers etc, and what you will hear are things like this, because there truly is nothing else they can say.

Scoring Winger
|
FRIGHT OF THE NIGHT:
Some of you guys are really spooking me out with all this JG being traded possibility...So much so that yesterday night, when I was going through the scorelines, I had a «WTF moment» when I was reading the Nashville - Tampa Bay boxscore and I saw that Gaudreau had an assist for the Preds....
After a quick search, Nashville does have a 23 year old Gaudreau..named Frederick...
Thanks for the adrenaline rush CP.

Here was my dream last night:
I was in the new Edmonton building for game 1. We were down 1-0 early but then I saw #77 come down for a breakaway. I was quite surprised that I missed CP's news that we called Janko back up. He was rewarded a penalty shot and scored. (very Colborne-esque with ten thousand stick moves)
Then in the third on the PP #72 scored with a wrist shot from the point, bar down. The announcer announced that John Gilmour scored his first NHL goal as well.
I asked another flames fan, did we trade back for John Gilmour?
He said No, there is a rule that once a player has been flames property, they are allowed to suit up for the flames for the next 5 years if they choose.
That didn't sound right but I went along with it and we won 2-1!
Moral of the story: Johnny still wasn't signed

I think what has happened, is that Brad Trevling, has left an take it or leave it offer(probably some things can be negotiated on) with Johnny and his agent. And right now Johnny and his agent are going over the contract offer by the Flames and hopefully, we hear something soon.
Brian Burke going to New York, may not be a good thing because he can say something stupid.

When has Brian Burke botched a negotiation where a player demanded a trade due to the negotiation?

Really? What about the part where he repeatedly says he doesn't like the word greed and that he doesn't believe anyone is greedy, they're just looking out for their own best interest. Irregardless of the Gaudreau contract that is a moronic thing to say.

this is my take not to do with Francis's comments:
The way out now is too ignore the long term deal.... 3.5 x 2.
Moves Johnny to the point that he is closer to getting back east, better bargaining position in the summer of 2018.
It also gives the Flames a higher degree of certainty of what is best for the Flames..... Thachuk will have have establish his potential. Bennett will either be a a #1C or at least establish his top end .
Right now is a unique time where a team has so much potential and so little certainty.
Potential: Gaudreau, Hamilton, Bennett, Tkachuk, Brodie Gillies
In 2 years the impact ranking of these 6 guys could be very different from where it is today where Gaudreau is #2 (behind Brodie). In 2 years Gaudreau could be 5/6 on this team.

-Who is the villain here, he thinks it, Lewis Gross(Johnny's agent) and Tom Rowe(Florida Panthers GM for signing the Ekblad contract, he called Tom Rowe a "stupid son of a gun").
-It is a good thing that Brad Trevling went to talk to Johnny directly, so Johnny is not getting filtered information through his agent(which he thinks Johnny is not getting).
-Johnny's camp is pointing to Ekblad contract(says GM's around the leauge may not be happy with Tom Rowe). Johnny's camp is saying forwards are more marketable and more dynamic.
-People will forget, what happens here, Jarome Iginla missed 3 games coming off his entry level contract and it a blip on the map but people forgot about.
-Johnny's camp is saying look at Vladimir Tarasenko's contract but Eric Francis says that was a different situation, Vladimir Tarasenko was RFA and could get offer sheeted.
-The annual Eric Francis pizza pig out, is October 19, all you can eat Pizza at Cowboys, $50 a ticket.

I don't think that is a moronic thing to say, if you were involved in a situation, where you can make more money, than you are going to go for it. I don't like the word greedy either because everyone in this world is going to go for a big payday, if given the chance, the top CEO's, make millions, yet they want even more, it that being greedy, no, they are just going out for their interests. I am sorry you feel that nobles but this is how the world works.

I'm no fan of Francis, but yeah, everything he said was pretty much accurate, reasonable, and measured. Didn't really say much, other than recapping everything. But nothing idiotic, that is for certain.

Give it a few years, and 'irregardless' will be a fully recognized word. It's getting to the point where I hear/read it much more often than the word regardless.

At least it's not as bad as "literally"
Because figuratively speaking literally everytime I've seen it used, I've bashed my head open with a hammer in frustration.
