I'm sure many Flames fans would like Treliving to go all Kevin Lowe and just hand out whatever the player wants, but there's a lot at stake here for the NHL salary structure.

Based on his handling of Hall's deal, Lowe would have had Gaudreau signed to a fair-for-team deal by September 2015. So yes, as a fan of the Flames, I would have preferred Treliving sign Gaudreau to a contract that was not lopsided in favor of one party (the player).

That's good. I don't care if he is pulling every trick in the book to secure every penny he can in the biggest income earning years of his life, as long as he realizes it's business and doesn't hold a grudge against the team or its management, which appears to hopefully be the case.

If they are still over a million apart, after Treliving extended an olive branch, went there to negotiate, and by many accounts has moved somewhat (possibly over $7M now), then Gross is clueless and they must still be asking for $8M+.
If that is in fact the case, Johnny is going to be missing some games. Maybe a lot of games. He needs a new agent.
Maybe Treliving stayed at $6.5M and Gross/Johnny dropped to $7.5M but the Flames are staying at their number? (Just showing the opposite side because none of us actually know what the numbers are and whether anyone has moved).

You know who else is in Edmonton? Lucic. guess where Lucic played previously. Boston, one of Johnny's favourite teams. Edmonton also just traded away a forward, opening up a spot.
All of this and coldplay since they opened their new arena.
